For some reason the site will not let me respond to reviews. I have tried using two different browsers, my work computer and my personal computer and I keep getting the same error:
"Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /user.php on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."
Is this happening for anyone else?

I was actually having trouble leaving a review earlier. I can't do it on firefox but I was able to do it from AOL.
Weird.
I wasn't getting a 404 error. The actual box where you're supposed to write just didn't show up for me.

I am so tired of seeing that Forbidden error message! I haven't gotten it for reviews (but I haven't posted anything in awhile either LOL), but I've gotten it when trying to post on the forum.

I used to get that all the time here too but ever since Ash fixed the problem it hasn't been happening to me anymore. It's been weeks.

It only seems to be certain posts. One time it wouldn't let me post one that had URLs in it. The other day, it let me post the first half of my really long concert review, but not the second half. I thought maybe it was because it was too long, so I tried to post it one paragraph at a time, but it wouldn't even let me post it that way. I didn't have anything special in that post, just text, so I have no idea why. When I posted in other threads, it worked fine.

That is so random! I'll get the forbidden error when I try to hit the site sometimes too, but refreshing makes it go away lol.

Remember the other day, when I pointed out that we weren't able to see the text boxes in the admin panel to update the news, etc and I fixed it? Well apparently we only get one or the other this week. Either we can get text boxes in the admin panel or in story bodies but not both. Sigh. I'll take a look at it.
In the meantime, if the text box isn't showing up for anyone, just unclick "use TinyMCE" and write your comments in plaintext.

It's links. Another lovely glitch is that the script for the forum is that you have to just post a full URL, but not turn it into a [ URL=whatever]whatever[ /url] link. It won't accept it otherwise.
If its just text, I don't know why it wouldn't post. It hates us all and needs to be taken out to pasture and shot?

Yeah, I figured out it was the links with the one post I mentioned; I think it was one where we were linking fanfics, and I wanted to make them pretty instead of posting the full URLs, but it didn't work. But I didn't have any links in my concert review, so I don't know why that wouldn't work. It must just hate us sometimes!

So.much.hate.
You know what the worst thing about efiction is? It's such a great concept, basically every fanfic archive uses it or has used it, especially with the volume of authors we have but they called it quits a few years ago and the script hasn't been updated since 2010. It was left with an abundance of bugs and so desperately needs TLC.
Apparently a couple of the founders have decided to give it another go but who knows when an update will be out and if it will be compatible with what everyone already has.

And yeah, eFiction is a massive mess. Any site I've been on that uses it always has problems. Is it open source, are we able to go into the script and tinker with the code?

Well I can't post a new chapter now either. When I try on firefox the boxes don't come up and when I try on AOL it says 404 forbidden. LOL I'm going to try to do it as a mod as see if that works but if not, that's gonna suck!

Are you getting that 404 thing?
If you want to email it to me I can try to do it as an admin. That's the only way I've been able to post my own chapters.

okay strange thing lol I did update it and it did work but it's not showing up on the most recent page and when you look at it, it says there's only one chapter. If you go in to edit it though, you'll see it's there so I'm baffled! Anyway now that's it's technically there, maybe you can go in and edit it or try to repost it and it'll show up on the most recent page. If not maybe Julilly will know what the heck to do because I'm confused! LOL

I'm still getting the 403/404 error when trying to post a new chapter to my story :( I think I sent an email through the contact us button before I realized I could post here on the boards. *facepalm*
I had tried a few days ago to post a chapter and had gotten it then but thought it was an error on the internet connection I was using though I should know better...a 404 error is a server error usually.
Well I guess this means I'll be several chapters ahead of what I have currently posted. :D

Some of us have been having that issue too for whatever reason. If you want to email me your chapter at the address I posted a few posts back, I can try to post it for you like I did for Cinzia. It's kind of a crap shoot though lol sometimes it'll work and sometimes it won't but I don't mind trying.

Good! And just FYI for both you and Cinzia, when I tried to do it just in the boxes I also got a 404 message but when I copy and pasted your chapters into a word document, saved it as a web page and then uploaded it that way, it went through. :) Hopefully AC will just stop being a butt! LOL

ahhh. thanks for the pointer. didn't think about doing it that way! Hopefully AC get's fixed soon, or can be fixed so people can post things regularly again.

Yeah, just in case you guys happen to get that 404 message again, try it that way to see if it works. It may not, but it's worth a shot. :)

Yes, the site is down just in case anyone is wondering. It's weird that the MB is working so maybe that means the site will be back shortly! Let's hope because no, I have no idea why it's not working. Probably a server/host issue. Blah!

Yeah, up, so apparently our efiction DB has overloaded the server.
I'm in talks w/ the server guys to see what we need to do to fix the issue. I'm pretty sure it's going to involve pruning the size of the database, which means...
The bad news: We're likely going to have to prune out a lot of the reviews (which take up more than half of the db space and are the only thing I can think of that would be able to be removed w/o effectively taking down the site). I'm going to copy the DB before doing anything, and will probably TEMPORARILY disable reviews until I have some time this weekend to see if I can come up with something either to save off those reviews somewhere else or [insert some brilliant idea here].

Just out of curiosity, how many of you still can't access the site? The only way I can get on the site is by clicking on a review or response to a review link. When I try to direct link to the site no matter what I use, I am still getting that site is down message.

I think the only problem is with the main page at absolutechaos. com. Maybe Chaos just needs to remove the message. I got an email about your update, Mare, and tried that link, and it worked fine. From there, I can get to the rest of the site like normal. It's only if I go to just absolutechaos. net that I see the down message.

You know what's weird? On my phone I get the message. When I go on my computer I access it just fine. Weirdness.

To me it's the opposite. On my phone, it works fine and I don't get the message; when I try with my computer, I get the message. :crazy:

The message is gone. The host apparently opened the site to all without telling me they'd done so (not complaining, of course, except that it would've been good to know so I could remove the message...). Just so ya'll know, I've had to TEMPORARILY remove the reviews so we don't overload the server again. They're still there, just not reachable for the moment. They'll be back as soon as the site is moved.
I'm close to deciding on a new host, so hopefully the move will be soon and we'll be on a server with better resources and won't have to worry about similar outages.

Anyone who hasn't made an update thread, now would probably be a good time to do it so this way people can come in and leave you reviews that way until the review function is back up and running soon-ish I guess. lol

It appears that the move to the new server was successful! You might want to go over to AC and see if you can access everything and if you can't, comment in the news item Ash left so he knows what's working and what's not.

Interestingly, it appears that some posts on the forum from today have disappeared. I'm sure that had to do with the move. Very small price to pay, I say. I know this because a couple of the poste were mine. lol. Apparently I DID break it again. :'(

Same here, Emily! I was just telling Julilly, everything that posted after I came home from school seems to have disappeared as if it was all some kind of dream! :(
