I just want to remind everyone that I can see the IP addresses that vote so don't try and stuff the ballot boxes :)

You didn't set any limits, so I did vote more than once because there were some categories where it was too hard to choose... there was more than one I wanted to vote for!  But I've voted for all my faves now, so I'm good LOL.  I hope no one's trying to rig the polls, cause really, what's the point?  Then it's no longer "Reader's Choice" - it's "Who is most desperate to win?"

Yeah I really think it more a rule to stop people from voting for themselves (or their best friend) 200 times a day than to stop anyone from putting in a vote for 2 different stories in the same category...

Can you go in and limit it to one per IP address?  And, for that matter, delete multiple votes from one IP address?

Makes sense.  It doesn't look like it's been abused too much, if at all; most of the categories seem to have a reasonable competition going on.

The last time I hosted my own awards, which was in 2003, this group of writers came in and totally found a way around my polls, which I thought you couldn't vote in more than once a day (turns out you could if you cleared your cookies or dialed-up again or something... it took some effort, but it was possible), and rigged them so that they won every category they were nominated in.  I'd never even heard of them before then, so I knew they weren't just uber-popular and guaranteed to get a lot of votes.  I was so pissed, that was the last time I even bothered.

There should really be an only vote once per category rule. Because it defeats the whole purpose otherwise lol

It was supposed to be set up to be only one IP address but it doesn't seem to be working properly. I'm guessing it's a cookies issue.

And I'm not talking about those who voted twice on different categories, or even those who even vote a couple of times. I'm talking stuffing the "ballot boxes" like Ash mentioned. And it gives me a report with the votes, so I am able to see if say one person voted a whole bunch of times for the same thing in an hour.

This is true, if you go and vote for two stories in the same category your votes cancel each other out, so you might as well not vote at all lol

But at least both those stories/authors get votes.  Most of the ones I voted for weren't in the lead anyway and probably won't win, if the voting patterns hold.

I made sure to tell people to vote only once. And I voted for stories I knew. And if I didn't know any of the stories in a category, I picked the one that sounded most interesting by title-lol.
