Chapter 1 by colorguard_diva

“And they lived happily ever after.” If only those words were true. I closed the book, kissed my sleeping daughter goodnight and walked out of the room. I walked down the hall and went in the next room.

“Hey mom. When is dad coming back from Uncle Bri’s?” My seven year old son looked at me with his big blue eyes. He looked just like his dad.

“I’m not sure, sweetie. Your dad is busy working on some music.” It broke my heart to lie to my son. I couldn’t fathom him knowing the truth. His dad didn‘t want to be married to his mom. I took his book and placed it on the nightstand. I kissed him on the cheek and started walking out.

“Goodnight mom. I love you.” He yawned.

“Love you, too. Get some rest, Jackson.”

I leaned against the hallway wall. Tears sprung from my eyes. It hurt knowing your husband didn’t love you anymore. It hurt knowing your husband was in another state because he could not stand to be around you. When did it all change for him? I’m not really sure. Unfortunately, I loved my husband more today than I did when I first met him. My love grew stronger for him each passing day. I loved watching him with the kids. He was such a great dad. He spent time with Rachel and Jackson; taking them to the beach, play tag, and helping with homework. Those are the things that made me love him more. It didn’t matter that he was an international singing sensation. I loved him when he was dirty from playing outside with the kids.

The ringing of the phone pushed me out of my thoughts. I looked at the caller id. It was my brother. “Hello, Kev.”

“Hey sis. I got an interesting phone call today from our cousin.” I rolled my eyes, knowing that this was going to be a long conversation.

“Really Kevin? What did Brian have to tell you?” I sat on the couch preparing myself, knowing this would be about Nick.

“He mentioned that Nick was staying with him, but he kicked him out today.”

“What?  Nick is supposed to be staying with him. They are working on some songs.”

“Apparently Nick isn’t behaving like a good husband.” I could only imagine what Nick was doing. It had to be bad, if Brian kicked him out and I was getting a call from my brother.

“We’re separated and he wants a divorce.” I whispered. It was embarrassing to have to tell my brother this. He had the perfect marriage and family.

“What did the little asshole do?” Kevin was upset.

“He didn’t do anything…except fall out of love with me.”

“What an ass! Wait until I get my hands on him.” He barked into the phone.

“Kevin, you will leave him alone. This is my problem to work on. I know you’re concerned, but I don’t need you butting in my marriage. Look it’s getting late. I got work in the morning. Bye.” I hung up the phone before he could respond. I didn’t want to talk about it, especially with my brother.

I sat on the bed, remembering all the times I made love with my husband. The tears continued to run down my face. I was lost without him. I was incomplete. I was broken. He didn’t even care about my feelings. He was done with this marriage and I didn’t even have a choice in the matter. What ever Nick wanted, Nick got. He was so persistent and charming, he could sale you swamp land in Antarctica.

When he told me he wanted a divorce, I thought he was joking and I laughed in his face. He didn’t laugh with me. I asked if there was another woman. His answer was no. He just fell out of love with me. I never thought that would be the reason my marriage ended. Then he went to Atlanta to work on his music with his best friend and my cousin Brian. He needed to get away from me.
