Against All Odds - Chapter Eleven

Sitting down alongside Nick at the shore, Brian placed his arm protectively around Nick’s
shoulder. Instead of looking over at Brian, Nick continued to stare out at the dark water,
tears streaking his cheeks.

“He’s not gone Brian,” he choked out.

“I know,” came the reply.

Nick continued to stare out at the water. “He’s alive, I know it, I can feel it.”

Brian sighed. “Nick--”

Shrugging Brian’s arm off his shoulder, Nick quickly stood up. “No, not you too Bri, god,
they aren’t finding a body, hell, they seem to be more than happy to just wipe their hands
of it. He’s alive dammit. I know he is!”

“But the proof is there, Nick, be reasonable, no one could survive a drop that distance. Not
you, me or AJ.”

“Brian, I won’t believe it until I look at his body and since there isn’t any, I have no other
choice but to believe he survived this somehow and we will find him, we just have to keep
hoping and looking for clues.”

Brian watched from where he was sitting as Nick walked over to the water’s edge. A small
wake lapped up against the edge of the bank. Nick thrust his hands into his front pockets
and stared at the water as if it would reveal a clue to what had happened.

Standing up and brushing the sand from the back of his jeans, Brian walked over to where
his friend stood. “Nick, how about we go and retrace AJ’s steps back from the Johnny No
Name show to this water?”

A slight smile spread across Nick’s face. “Yeah, I like that idea, maybe we’ll be able to find
him this way.”

Brian clamped a hand on Nick’s shoulder. “It’s a start, buddy.”
