The Lovely Bones discussion thread
« on: November 09, 2008, 09:28:27 AM »

Howdy all!

Are we ready to start our very first book club discussion. Woot! How exciting!

I hope everyone got their copy of The Lovely Bones. I know i'm looking forward to re-reading it.

Why don't we say that by Friday we should have at least the first five chapters read. This book isn't terribly long or hard to read so that shouldnt be a problem.

Then maybe the first thing we can do is discuss the main characters and how likable and real they are?

Happy reading everyone!  ;D

Sounds good!

I got my book about a week ago, but I ordered some other books along with it, so it was nice that we waited a week cause I got a chance to read one of the other books first LOL.  I started on The Lovely Bones a little while ago and am already on Chapter 3.

I know, i'm reading Digital Fortress now along with it. One's going to be my school book and one's going to be my home book. lol

I forgot how much POW the first chapter sends.

I know.  So far it's sad, but intriguing at the same time.

I do too.  That's how I think Heaven should be.  And it makes the most sense... because otherwise it would seem that Heaven would be very crowded, if everyone who had ever lived and died was in the same place, no matter how infinitely big it was LOL.

Although it does kinda remind me of an old fanfic I read where Nick committed suicide by drinking a bottle of bleach and then went to Heaven, where he befriended a girl, and they lived in a dorm or something together and ate dinner at McDonald's LOL.

LMAO I have never read that one before.

I always thought heaven would be more like Tokyo or NYC once you got there because of all the people.

I thought I would comment because I'm reading your posts, lol--but I don't know if I would want people I didn't know to be that close to me if I were dead.... I kind of immagine Heaven is like living in a happy little town with everyone you love. :)

I like that view of heaven. I hope it's that way, including any pets we have lost along the way of course.

Of course there are pets in Heaven. :)

The only problem with living in a little happy town with everyone you love is that everyone they loved would live in the same town too, and if you loved a lot of people, it would be a pretty large town. lol!

^ I hear it's all you need. :)

About this book, I love when a story opens up with a random paragraph or strong quote at the very beginning. I loved that very first paragraph of the story and the fact that within the first chapter we already have established that the main character is dead, how it happened and who did it. It's like a murder mystery in reverse because we all know the truth but the characters don't. I loved how unique that concept was and how equally thrilling it was to read.

Yeah, it's definitely interesting to see what her killer's up to throughout the story, because she's watching him.  Very creepy, and definitely unique.
