So far it looks like Beauty and the Beast is in the lead by one vote.  How about we let voting continue through the weekend and shut it down Sunday night?

Looks like Beauty and the Beast it is!

So, to recap, here is the challenge:

  • You are to write your own version of Beauty and the Beast, starring the Backstreet Boys, which fits into your writing "niche."  It should be the type of story you are known for writing - see the quote from Mare in my original post for examples.

  • To add to the challenge, you will post your story anonymously on the site, and we will try to guess who wrote each tale, based on your writing style and the type of story you wrote.  Mare has created an account that we can all use to post the stories.  The username is "challenges," and the password is "acbsb."  When your story is done, just log in to that account and post it.  After the challenge is over and we're all done guessing, you can add yourself as a co-author if you want it to show up on your account.

  • There is no word count limit for this challenge, but since fairy tales are traditionally short, it should be a one-shot, not a novel.

  • The deadline to post your story is August 31.  That gives you over a month to write it.  After that, I will compile a list of all the challenge entries here, and we'll start playing the guessing game!  Until then, don't post any guesses, and don't let us know when you've completed the challenge, or you might give it away.

Here is a link to the traditional version of Beauty and the Beast, if you want to read it for reference: http://www.pitt.edu/~dash/beauty.html  Feel free to use anything from the Disney movie or other versions, too.  As long as your story is recognizable as a twist on Beauty and the Beast, anything goes!

Are we going to list who is participating in the challenge as well? So this way it makes it easier to guess? I would say if that's the case, those people probably shouldn't say they participated until right before the guessing happens?

I haven't really commented on this thread at all, but I think this will be really fun! As of yet, I have no idea what kind of thing I might do with it, so we'll see whether I'm able to come up with something or not.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well, that we could ask after the deadline who participated so we'll have a list of people to guess from.

As I'm watching the movie for inspiration...

Anyone else think the Beast was more attractive as a beast than he is as a human? LOL

He definitely looked weirder as a person. LOL

I'm being very 'liberal' with mine.

I've heard that too... I guess they said so in one of the sequels?  I don't watch Disney sequels, so I would have never known.  I think that's a stupid name for him.  It doesn't sound French or old-fashioned.  I wish he would have stayed an unnamed Beast forever LOL.
