Chapter 43
A couple of weeks went by and AJ was still in a coma. He had been taken off life support and his bruises were healing really nice. Everyone was just waiting for him to wake up. Gina as well as the others came and visited with him whenever they could. They would talk to him about things that were going on and the guys would sing some of there material. Gina after her shift walked into AJ’S room to find Chelsea and Rachel.
“ Hey guys what are you doing” Gina asked.
“ We are here to see AJ it is his room” Rachel replied looking at her like she was crazy.
“ I knew that IM just surprised to see you both visiting him at the same time” Gina told them.
“ I think you need sleep because your not sounding normal” Chelsea said.
Gina sighed knowing that they were right. She didn’t sleep more than a couple of hours a night since AJ had been in the hospital. That was a normal sleeping pattern for Rachel not her.
“ Yeah I do I’ll probably take a nap in a little while”.
“ So the wedding is in a week you have everything pretty much done right” Gina asked.
“ Yep the only thing left to do is to pick up my dress the day before” Chelsea replied. “ Although I have been thinking that maybe I should post pone the wedding till AJ wakes up and is well enough to be a grooms man”.
“ Its too late to call everyone that is coming and cancel plus I don’t think that AJ would want you to do that” Gina replied
“ Yeah and I know AJ if he thinks that he is the cause for it than he will be upset and blame himself” Rachel piped up.
“ OK but I would feel bad going ahead with it when he is still in a coma here and it wouldn’t be the same without him” Chelsea complained.
Gina looked over at AJ. She really wished that he would wake up and Chelsea was right. It wouldn’t be the same.

AJ felt like a semi truck had run him over and over. His whole body ached and his chest felt like someone was sitting on it with all there weight. He knew that he was somewhere where it was dark and foggy and for awhile now has been hearing every word that his friends were saying. “ I have to be at that wedding” He thought to himself. “ I can’t let Kevin down again”. The only problem was that he hurt so much he didn’t know if he had he strength. “ I have to try” He urged himself. “ Here goes nothing”

Gina looked at her watch. “ Its almost dinner time you guys what do you say we go out for Italian food” She suggested. “I haven’t had a decent meal in awhile plus we haven’t really gotten the chance to hang out”.
“ I’m up for that” Chelsea agreed.
“ Me too I haven’t eaten all day and Italian sounds so good” Rachel said.
The three were on their way out the door when AJ’S heart monitor signaled that AJ’S heartbeat was increasing. Gina walked over to AJ.
“ Ok that’s not normal IM going to go and get his doctor”.
Before she could go anywhere she saw AJ’S eyes start to flutter. Gina grabbed his hand. “ AJ if you can hear me than squeeze my hand” she ordered.
She felt a squeeze. “ Ok AJ open your eyes for me” She pleaded.
Chelsea and Rachel walked over to AJ’s bed and watched as his eyes opened than closed than opened again.
Gina grinned when she was sure that he was going to keep them opened.“ Hey baby how are you feeling”? she asked kissing him on his forehead.
AJ force a weak smile. “ Ok I guess”.
Chelsea and Rachel looked at each other and nodded. ? We are going to go and find the doctor” Chelsea said.
“ Yeah we will leave you guys alone’ Rachel said.
After the two of them left Gina turned her attention back to AJ. “ You had us all scared to death”.
AJ gave her a sheepish smile. “ Sorry”. “ How long have I been in a coma”.
“ About 2 weeks” Gina replied. “ Do you remember what happened”?
AJ sat up a little trying to hide the fact that he was in pain but not succeeding. “ Yeah I remember some of it”.
“What all do you remember”? Gina asked.
“ Well I remember I went to a bar only planning on having a beer to make me feel better and one beer turned into 4 and I decided to go home and I thought it was safe to drive because I felt fine but I guess I wasn’t fine when I started to swerve and everything went black” He explained.
Gina shook her head. “ Have we learned anything from this experience”?
“ Yeah I will never drink and drive again” AJ said. “ Can I ask you a question “?
“ Sure go ahead” Gina said.
“ Why can’t I feel my legs”.

Nick, Kevin, Howie and Brian all rushed through the revolving double doors of he hospital. The guys had been at the tuxedo place a few blocks away getting sized for the upcoming wedding when Rachel had called Nick and had told him that AJ had woken up and for him to spread the news and come to the hospital.
The boys ran through the hospital up to AJ’S floor. They were stopped by Rachel, Chelsea and Gina who were waiting outside AJ’s door.
“ You can’t go in yet”? Gina told them.
“ Why not” ?Kevin asked.
“ Because the doctor is taking a look at him and running a few tests” Chelsea explained.
“ Like what”? Nick asked.
“ AJ can’t feel his legs so they are running tests to determine if he is paralyzed and if its perminate or not” Gina told them solemnly.
A few minutes later the doctor came out of AJ’s room.
“ So what’s the verdict” Gina asked anxiously.
“ AJ has some swelling in his spine that’s why he can’t feel his legs” The doctor started.” He is going to be paralyzed temporarily but with physical therapy and medication to help the swelling in the spine he should make a recovery”.
“ How long before he can walk again” Brian asked.
“ Its hard to tell” The doctor answered. “ Depends on how quickly the swelling goes down and how much progress he makes in physical therapy”. “ I am going to tend to some other patients I will check back with him alter”.
“ Thank you doctor” Kevin said.
The gang all went in to see AJ sort of sitting off and most of the machines had been taken out.
“ Well look who finally decides to grace us with his presents” Nick joked.
AJ rolled his eyes.
The gang spent an hour talking with AJ. Finally they had to leave because visiting hours were over. Gina stayed behind after everyone left.
“ come here” He said motioning for her to sit on the bed next to him.
“ I just wanted to say IM so sorry for cheating on you and if you don’t want to get back together I totally understand I will give you your space”.
“ Look AJ I have realized from your accident that life is too short and precious to take for granted so I forgive you and I am willing to give it another chance” Gina replied. With a smile and a tear running down her cheek.
AJ grinned and kissed her passionately on the lips. “ Thank you”
Gina shook her head . “ No thank you’s we have to work on that trust issue”.
“ I know and you won’t regret this cause IM going to win your trust back” AJ vowed.” And you know what”
“ What” Gina asked snuggling up to him and turning out the lights so they could go to sleep.
“ I love you” he whispered.
“ I love you too AJ”
