Chapter 1

"We have a new student with us today" Mr. Newbury said as a young kid stood beside him "His name's Nick Carter and he's from New York"

4 year-old Kelly looked up and smiled at the view: Nick was blond, with stunning ocean blue eyes.

He sat next to her and smiled, shyly.

"Hi, I'm Kelly" She introduced herself.

"Hi, I'm Nick" He smiled.

Two hours later, their mothers came to pick them up.

"Danielle?" Jane Carter asked "Is that you?"

"Jane?" Danielle couldn't believe it "What are you doing here? I thought you lived in New York"

"Well, I moved last night to Orlando" Jane said "Well, long time, no see. You surely are different. How's Chris?"

"He left me before I had my daughter Kelly" Danielle said, looking at the floor "Anyway, how's Bob and Nickolas?"

"They're great, I had a baby girl three years ago" Jane said "She's inside my car. Wanna see her?"

"Yeah" Danielle said as they walked to Jane's car.

"Oh, she's adorable. What's her name?"

"Roberta Jean. But Nick calls her Bobbie Jean or BJ" Jane said.

"Is Nick in this kindergarten?" Danielle asked.

"Yeah"

"Kelly's here as well" Danielle asked "In fact, she must be getting out"

"There he is" Jane said "Nick, over here"

Nick came up with a small girl.

"There she is. That's my little Kelly" Danielle said.

"Mommy, I already have a friend" Nick hugged her mother.

"You are in the same class, Kelly?" Danielle asked her daughter as Kelly nodded.

"I had an idea" Danielle said "How about you and your family have dinner tonight in my house?"

"No, you don't have to" Jane said "We have to unpack and all that"

"We'll help you" Danielle said "We have to pick Mark up but after that we're all yours"

They picked Mark up while Nick and Kelly played together.

Danielle and Jane looked at the backseat where the children played together.

"Aren't they cute?" Danielle asked "I think one day they'll get together"

"Yeah I think so too" Jane said as both women laughed.

That day had expired ten years ago. Kelly was 14 while Nick was 15.

They were in same classes in high school and since the day they met they became best friends.

"Yo, Kelly, wait up" Kelly heard someone call her as she closed her locker.

She turned around to see Nick.

"Hey, what's up?" She asked.

"I have great news" he started "You know that boys band I told you about?"

"The Backstreet Boys?"

"Yeah, we signed a record deal with Jive and we're going on tour in Europe" Nick said.

Kelly's smile faded away.

"Are you ok?" He noticed her expression.

"I'm speechless" She said "I don't know what to say"

"Yo, Nick, c'mon, we need to go to the recording studio" AJ came up running.

"Come with us" Nick told Kelly.

"I need to go home" She lied.

"Please. Come with us, only this time" He pleaded.

"Ok" She gave up "Let's go"

One hour later, Nick was recording the song "We've Got It Goin' On"

"The song is great, isn't it?" She heard Kevin ask her.

"Yeah, it's funky" She laughed "Nick has a great voice"

She might seem happy outside but on the inside she was falling apart.

"I'm going outside to get some fresh air" She said before leaving.

She looked behind and ran for a bus that was about to leave.

Meanwhile, Nick had finished recording.

"Hey, where's Kel?" He asked Kevin.

"She went outside get some air" He said "I don't think she's ok with this Backstreet thing"

"I'm going after her" Nick said "I'll be right back"

Nick went outside and saw the bus leave.

He thought "She can't be in that bus. Can she?"

He saw her inside the bus and tried to run after it, but wasn't able to catch it.

Kelly sighed in relief as she went home.

She got out on the bus stop next to her house and heard someone call her.

"Kelly" BJ called "Nick's looking for you"

"I know" Kelly said "I wasn't feeling really good so I decided to come home"

"Ok then" BJ said as Kelly entered her house.

10 minutes later, Kelly was in her room listening to Bon Jovi's "Always" when someone rang the bell.

She looked through the window and saw Nick, standing at the door.

"Kelly, Nick's here" Danielle called but Kelly didn't say anything. Instead she laid on the bed and closed her eyes.

Nick knocked at the door and entered the room.

He laid next to her and touched her hair.

"Why did you run off?" He asked.

"I wasn't feeling good, I had a huge headache" She lied.

"Liar" He smiled but her expression stayed the same.

"I need to tell you something" He said before taking a deep breath "I love you"

"What?"

"I understand you don't love me. But I've loved you since we were kids"

She stayed quiet so he said "I gotta go"

Before she could say anything he was out the door.
