While I love all the boys, Nick is my muse, so all my fanfiction is about him. My New Year's Resolution is to NOT be George R R Martin and make all of you wait six years for an update. Okay, so theory time: Oliver is not Nick's because Chris gets out and rapes Ashley, shoots Nick. The bullet becomes lodged in Nick next to a vital artery or somewhere they can't surgically remove it from without killing him, and in his seventies the bullet moves and finally kills Nick. Ashley pines for Nick and dies within a year, unless the Carter babies do their job and cheer up mummy, which they better!
I'm really hoping to be wrong about most of these and that the reality is much kinder. I think it's interesting though that statistically speaking, the mortality rate of the surviving spouse in a couple increases sharply the year after their partner's death. I know my grandma had a hard time coping after my grandfather passed away a few years ago, but she's had our entire family to support her and be there for her.

Author's Response: Funny you should ask that. Originally Chris wasn't even IN the story. Then I added him in because Ashley needed somebody at the house to interact with and bring her attention to the news on TV. In the first outline of the story that did include Chris, he was use only as a catalyst to make Nick see how he felt. Even once Ashley was WITH Chris, he wasn't initially intended to be the monster he became. I chose to skew Chris when I wrote the intro to Landing and the idea that he and Nick had a fight came into play. Throughout the entirety of Landing, I built Chris's abusive personality brick by brick in a slow, subtle fashion so that the opening of Leave would be shocking, but still completely traceable through the stories. Chris's character was not, however, originally intended to be in Love. It wasn't until I got complaints that his arrest in Leave wasn't harsh enough that I decided to carry him over. I probably should've added one more story as Love is going to end up being longer than the other Nick & Dogface stories, but oh well! Live and Learn. ;)

OMG nice twist... The find my phone app, I never would've thought of that! Also, gun control laws in the U.S are ridiculous :/ I'm not against responsible gun ownership, but the ease of acquiring a firearm is just ridiculous, and I totally agree with Ashley that two guns are more dangerous than one.

Even though it was a brief chapter, I really liked this one! My grandmother often talks about when she can feel that my grandfather is around. I'm sad, though, that Nick and Ashley don't seem to have any grandbabies.
