First off, WELCOME BACK!!

I do have to say out of all the chapters in this story this one by far is my favorite.

I absolutely love the scene you wrote between nick & quinn while they were in bed. That was written very well even with Courtney watching.

I do wish, however, that Quinn would just confide in Nick. I know she is vunerable and scared but what woman isn't? I'm really glad though that Courtney did talk to her and give her some kind of advice. I also like how she admitted outloud at the end.

You are my favorite writer on here. Quinn is my favorite character and I love the story that you have going for these two. I can't wait to see what happens with them. Keep up with the updates!

Author's Response:

Thank you...it's good to be back and it felt good to get this chapter out.  It is setting the stage for quite a few things that are coming up.  We are really in the home stretch here!  I envisioned the bed scene when I first started putting my thoughts together for this chapter, which was not originally in my outline...I debated over whether or not it would be considered strange for Courtney to watch that exchange between Nick and Quinn, but then I decided that it was important.  They have reached a level of intimacy that very few people close to them have seen, I thought it was appropriate since they kind of "came out" as a couple at her party that someone close to Quinn know what was REALLY going on.  Quinn has been kind of in her own world since the return from Vegas and hasn't had a lot of outside influence, which is part of why I think she has been so open to Nick.  I think that we are learning more and more about her, and we will continue to do so for the rest of the story.  I say she is a "hot mess"...human, confused, scared but a contradiction at the same time; confident, successful, beautiful.  The compliment about her being your favorite character means a lot to me, it is important to me that people are able to see beyond the blonde hair and seemingly perfect life and that she is human and insecure, just like the rest of us.

Sorry for the psychoanalysis, probably way TMI but your comments brought it out, I couldn't resist.  Also, I don't know how to take your statement about my writing/me being your favorite writer on here...that is overwhelming to me and I sincerely thank you.  I hope I don't disappoint you...I can promise you the last bit of this story may be a bit of a roller coaster, so hang on tight!  Thanks for reading and reviewing!!!

Okay this is my favorite chapter now!I loved it!

This chapter was amazing. I didn't think you could out do yourself but you did. I love the story line between Nick & Quinn. What I love most about them is the simplicity between them. When I am reading this story I feel as if I am actually invovled with the story; Its like I'm a reading a novel. It would be nice if guys really did things like that. Unfortunately chivarly is dead.

My absolute favorite part of this chapter was the last scene you wrote of them. The way he just simply irrupts her and says 'I love you' was beautiful. I do however wish she would just open up and let her feelings go. She needs to realize that she isn't the only one who is scared. Nick is scared too, he was just the one who was willing to take the risk first and say I love you. One thing she does need to remember is that sex is not always the answer to everything, and sex is not always going to be there for her to hide her emotions.

One thing that I was really happy you finally wrote about was when he started to push her to say 'I love you'. I was waiting for that. I am so happy that he did that, but then he stopped which I wish he wouldn't of. But who knows what you have up your sleeve for the next chapters. She may just surpise us all and say the magic words to him when she goes to visit him on tour.

One more thing, In regards to saying you were my favorite author on the previous comment on chapter 36; I meant it. You are an astounding writer. You cease amaze me. I know you are afraid of letting someone down, but keep in mind, not everyone is perfect and everyone is bound to have an off day and thats okay. I'm the kind of person that will tell you how it is, besides having good constructive criticism is what every great writer needs. I wish you good luck with the story line and your writings.

I hope that you update soon and maybe just maybe you could do a sequel to Casual when the time comes. Hurry back with the next update!

Brittany

Author's Response:

Brittany, you are so sweet, thank you again for the compliments.  I appreciate your detailed feedback and constructive critiscism.  I think that as a reader you should feel the ups and downs with the characters, and if you have and feel like you are there with them, then I have done my job!  I had planned for Nick to do that whole "say it" thing for a long time now, but I had intended for it to come out much softer than it did - I didn't plan on him getting so emotional about it, or aggressive.  I think with the sex thing, they both use it to avoid things.  Quinn tries to deflect attention off of her by initiating sex and Nick uses it for power, he knows she is vulnerable to him when he has her in a position like she was at the end, and he can get away with things and do things he wouldn't normally do.  The same thing happened in Vegas (which you guys don't know what that is...yet).

I'm glad you mentioned the simplicity...the fact that things COULD be so simple is the crux of the conflict in the story.  People have baggage that prevents them from seeing what is right in front of them and just allowing themselves to be happy.  I know that I have experienced that in my own life, more recently than I would care to admit.  Both Nick and Quinn capture and contradict that idea - Quinn wants it to be simple, and she thinks by not defining things or overcomplicating them it can be simple; however, she seems any admission of feeling to Nick or herself as a complication.  Where Nick on the other hand thinks that if they could just let go and be transparent with each other things could be good - but he still hasn't shown his whole self, he has done better than her though.  Nick has A LOT of demons...I have alluded to some of them throughout the story but we haven't really seen them in action.  I think the end of this chapter shows a very different side of Nick that we haven't seen yet.

As far as a sequel goes, I have toyed with the idea, and I think it is safe to say that those of you who are dedicated readers might demand one after Casual is over...but we still have a bit to go.  I have been having tons of ideas for it lately, actually.  I have some other ideas floating around in my head that I may do something with after I finish this one.  Nick and Quinn can be pretty draining so I will definitely take a little vacation from them.

Sorry for the novel, but your reviews always make me think and have something to say!  Again, Brittany, thank you for reading and reviewing!

This was a very informative chapter, I liked it. It didn't have very much "talking" going on but thats okay sometimes you need chapters that give you information before you can get to the "talking" part.

I like the way Nick left. I wasn't sure how you were going to do that but I am very happy that he didn't wake her. It shows that you can say alot by writing one simple sentence to someone instead of having to talk to them. Sometimes all you need is simplicity.

The way Quinn reacted to Nick not waking her and leaving with saying goodbye really tore at my heart strings. She is finally showing more emotions when Nick isn't around and I hope that she realizes that she does love him and she shouldn't be afraid to say I love you to him. Her finding the NASCAR jacket was a cute touch too.

I hope Nick does keep his word and talk to AJ, hopefully AJ talks some sence into him and is able to help him. I can't wait to see what you have coming up in the next few chapters while Nick is touring. It should be interesting when Quinn comes to visit. Update soon!

Author's Response:

Honestly, I wasn't quite sure how this chapter was going to go...and the last one didn't go the way I had thought it would originally so I had to improvise here because of that.  Nick's last night was supposed to have the "you can say it" dialouge in it, but when I started writing it, Nick came off much more emotional and messed up than I had planned, so obviously, the last part was not in my original plan.  And with this chapter, I had to explain why he had reacted the way he had the night before and go inside of his head a bit so you guys could see where he's at. Although we know Nick loves Quinn, we don't know much about his baggage.  He has alluded it to it here and there throughout the story, but everything going on between him and Quinn is causing it to come out.  Things are going to get interesting with him being gone and so many things flying through both of them.

There was no way I could follow up on the last chapter with an emotional goodbye, so I stuck with the aftermath.  There was nothing Nick could have said in saying goodbye, so he took the least painful way out of the situation for Quinn.  Granted, she was hurt at the way he left, but what could he have said to make it better.  If he had been standing in front of her it would have been worse for her...and him.  As it was, the whole night was pretty grueling for Nick...very emotional.

There is so much more to come, and I wish I could just tell you all of it but I don't want to spoil it for you!  I love your detailed reviews!  Thanks again!

I loved it!!

This was a well written chapter. I liked how Quinn finally wrote another column, and I'm so happy it was about her love she has for Nick. I also liked the way you gave us her view of what life is like while Nick is gone. I hope to see more of it and I hope to see some of Nick's life on the road.

I DO NOT like Jake. There is something fishy about that character that I don't like. I really don't want him ruining or interfering with what Nick & Quinn have. I hope he's not in too many more chapters.

I liked the phone conversation they had. I won't lie, I was hoping that she would say yes to Nick and fly out to see him. I think the rules & reservations she is setting against herself is ridiculous. I know she is scared but seriously take the leap already! I know she will show Nick how she cares eventually, I just don't know if I can take it much longer, lol.

Good update and I hope you have another one out soon!

Brittany

Author's Response:

You do mean a column about the love she thinks she might have for Nick, right?  :o)  Ah, technicalities.

I have to say you are definitely not the first person to dislike Jake and I can pretty much guarantee that you won't be the last.  Jake will hang around for a bit longer...so hang tight.  Jake does still care for Quinn, which Nick knows, which is the reason he doesn't like him.

This is a huge leap for Quinn, even contemplating that she loves Nick is HUGE...she is thinking about the the fact that she might love him, which is progress, especially for her.  She is taking his being gone very had, maybe it is a good thing that she doesn't go meet him.  Afterall, if she was right there at Nick's disposal, would she be as appealing to him?  Not only that, but if she suddenly returned his feelings, what would happen next?  Is Nick ready for all of that?  Just a couple of things to think about...

Thanks for reading and reviewing, Brittany!  I always love how detailed your reviews are and I appreciate the honesty of your feedback.  More to come soon!  Hugs!

Well first off I was shocked with an update! I have been off work for 3 days so far (I am really really sick) and I have nothing to really do, so to see you've updated was awesome!

This was an alright chapter. It had its good points and not so good points. The part that brought it down for me is of course none other than JAKE! I am over that character, and I know you said he'll only be in a few more but seriously do you really need him? He just rubs me the wrong way. Feelings or no feelings for Quinn I don't like him and I especially don't want him to ruin anything with Quinn & Nick. I will say Quinn is really dumb, especially for working for a newspaper. Come on how could she not see that Jake's invite to a game not be a scheme?

My favorite part of the chapter was when you wrote in the boys doing a sound check shindig. How Nick was caught off guard, not only by the fans but by the boys as well was a good touch! I really glad that he finally announced that she is his girlfriend; but I'm even more proud of Quinn for not running away or trying to ignore the label. She is making progress and he is too, I love it!

I can't wait to see what happens next in this "saga" and I hope that things do work out for Quinn & Nick. Hopefully Jake will just mosey on back to Texas.

Brittany

Author's Response:

So sorry to hear you aren't feeling well, Brittany.  I hope you get to feeling better and I am glad that I could give you something to do...too bad you didn't LOVE it.  I do get what you are saying about Jake, but he is necessary to get the story where I need it to go.   He is actually more important to what is going on with Nick's character than Quinn's...Jake being present is bringing out Nick's insecurities and showing a different side of him.  Before Jake came along, Nick was practically perfect...patient, adoring, fun, hot...that isn't reality.  So you see, Jake had to come along to show Nick's more human, real side.  Most of Casual has focused on Quinn's issues, and honestly, this next part has been a bit more difficult for me to right because I have really had to "get into" Nick's head.  Jake will be around for a few more chapters, then he will be gone, hang in there.  You will probably continue to dislike him, if he didn't rub you the wrong way and you weren't invested in Nick and Quinn and didn't perceive him as a threat to their potential happiness then I would be worried that I wasn't doing my job!  I'm glad you hate Jake, I think he still has some redeeming qualities...

In some of the other reviews, I covered a bit about how much Nick has going on in this chapter...you will notice that the last bit of this story will include a lot more about him, because it is becoming less about Quinn and more about Nick and Quinn, the couple.

As always, thank you for the honest feedback, I do really appreaciate it!  Hopefully your sickness won't last much longer!  Hugs!

I am so so so happy that you updated!!! I have been checking back daily to see if you had updated this story and you finally did.

This was a good chapter and I can now understand how its getting harder for you to update. These chapters are getting intense and I love it! These characters are not only evolving together but separately as well. Their love for one another (even though Quinn hasn't said it yet) is endearing.

I hope that things start to look up for them. Even though Quinn got fired, all of those contracts will be a good thing for her. Its a start of a new era for her and hopefully her relationship with Nick. Now Nick is progressing really well. We are seeing a new side of him and his insecurities and it is great. I am glad that he did go to her house at the end. They both needed each other, even if it is just to cuddle or talk. I do have to admit, my favorite part in this story was by far Quinn tripping on his shoes, that was just hilarious!!

As usual this was a great update and I can't wait to see the next chapter. Hopefully you won't have much trouble writing the next one. Hurry back with the next update!

Brittany

Author's Response:

Hi Brittany, so sorry to keep you waiting so long!  You are spot on with your reasoning behind why it is getting more and more difficult to write this...the characters are going through tons of changes right now.  I am not sure where I said this, but the bulk of the first part of Casual focused heavily on Quinn and her issues, where this last bit really puts us in Nick's mind and his issues.  The conflict in the beginning was an internal one that Quinn was having, Nick just played the role of supportive whatever he was to her, but as things have changed, it's not enough...emotions are running high and he has a ton of baggage that is going to rear it's head.  It's already obvious he has major jealousy issues, insecurity, low self-esteem, etc...all of these things that can be tough to deal with and he is being forced to face them.

Thanks again for the wonderful, detailed review!  There isn't a ton left to go, but what remains is going to be quite a roller coaster!  Have a great day!!!

This was a powerful chapter. I sure do hope that you show us why you are keeping Jake around soon because I am really hating him right now. Truthfully if I was Quinn in that club scene I personally would of b*tch slapped the crap out of my ex and then walked out, but that's just me lol.

Seeing this side of Nick was truly shocking. I know it needed to happen but I'm kinda taken aback by how it happened. The small sex scene between them was very painful to read, since they have never been like that before. I know he has issues and they do need to come out, I just hope that Nick doesn't take them out on Quinn again.

I really really really hope that after what happened between the two of them that Quinn listens to Riley's advice and fixes the situation. Having an ex who still loves you involved in your life is never a good thing.

Please update soon and I hope that you can get back to regular updating!!

Author's Response:

Another fabulous review...I have to tell you that I always look for yours after I update because I want to hear what you have to say!

This was a HUGE chapter in a lot of ways, it contains lots of things that will continue to be very important as we continue on.  I know, Jake is very easy to hate, but he is bringing out this side of Nick that you find shocking...and it is scary.  I have been dropping hints for a while now that Nick had issues of his own and they really came out this chapter.  You are seeing Nick, as ugly as all of this was, it is part of who he is...and Quinn hadn't seen it before.  This adds a whole new dynamic to everything that has been going on.

I'm glad that you have all of these passionate feelings about what is going on, that translates to me that I have done my job.  I want you to hate Jake, to be shocked by Nick's behavior and that you want to knock some sense into Quinn.  Thank you for being emotionally invested in this story!  More to come, hang in there!  Hugs!

*Wipes away a tear*

I'm so proud of Quinn!!!! The fact that she FINALLY went to him is amazing! Granted they haven't talked anything out yet, but it's still a step in the right direction!

I love Riley, I wish I had a Riley in my life. I'm really happy that Quinn listened to Riley and took the plunge by just going to Germany. Riley is right; Quinn needed to fix this situation this time, however Nick isn't going unnoticed here. He does need to talk to Quinn, just as much as she needs to talk to him. They both need to sit down and have a heart to heart talk. Get their fears, hopes, dreams & emotions out to each other.

This is going to sound weird but I like how you wrote Nick trying to hook up with different women. The fact that he actually couldn't do it was sweet, in a way. That shows that yes he really does love Quinn and that no matter if its sober or not he can't cheat on her. I just hope that Quinn doesn't go crazy on him and make it worse, lol. Although, if you want to get technical she does still have Jake around....

Anyway I was so so so happy to see that you updated, I check back here everyday to see if you or tatinlinteaser have updated. I am excited to see what direction you are going to take with this story and if you do a sequel you can guarantee I'll read that too! Good luck and update soon!

Brittany

Author's Response:

YAY Quinn!  This is a HUGE deal and I'm glad that you realize what it means!  Things are tough and she is in fighting form, which is not how she usually reacts to things.  Nick on the other hand, not so much.  He is reverting back to his self-destructive way of coping and it isn't working.  How ironic that AJ was calling Nick out on all of it just as he walked in to find Quinn sitting in the lobby of his hotel?   Definitely something worth mulling over...Quinn stepping up, Nick stepping back.

I adore Riley too, she is probably my favorite character to write because in a way, both her and AJ act as Nick and Quinn's consciences in this story...they say the things they can't admit or say themselves.  Quinn was already thinking everything Riley had said, just her saying it made it real.  Quinn tends to create her own story so to speak and once it is out there, in words (not her writing) it becomes real.

To tell you the truth, I was really surprised that I updated as well.  I hadn't written a word in 2 1/2 weeks and I got inspired late Wednesday afternoon and wrote a scene, then wrote the other two yesterday...this chapter came out really easily and took practically no time for me to write.  It also came out very differently than I had planned and I think it is a much more important chapter than it was intended to be initially.

We don't have too many more chapters here, but what is left is going to be jammed with stuff...so buckle your seatbelt.  I have toyed with the idea of another Nick/Quinn story, and quite honestly, you may really need one once Casual is said and done.  After all, you are very correct in the fact that Jake is "technically" still around...

I am so happy you updated!

I am beyond thrilled that Quinn finally opened up to Nick, now we just have to wait and see what he says to her.

I am a little disappointed in Quinn's "secrets" I honestly thought with the way you kept everything so hidden and dark I thought her secrets would be alot worse than what she said. I don't know though maybe you'll add more in the next chapter we'll see. I hope that you update soon!

Author's Response:

Awww...I'm sad you are disappointed, but you have to remember that EVERY single thing that happens in this story is intentional.  Even if her reasons are not as dramatic as you expected, there is a reason that they are what they are, and you will see it soon.  And you might not like why.  The fact that her mother has passed away has been a major catalyst for quite a few things in the story.  It is the first thing she really opened up to Nick about early in the story, it is the reason she went to him in Orlando when they first really and truly emotionally connected...and it is also one of the things that keeps her tied to Jake.  All of this will make sense soon, so hang in there.  Things have been so emotionally charged for so much of this story that I know sometimes it seems like a lot hinges on a conversation.  In reality, the biggest thing happening in this chapter didn't really have a lot to do with what Quinn said or confessed to Nick; if you look back, she didn't "say" she loved him.  But she didn't have too, the physical and emotional intimacy between them was very obvious here.  And you are so right, Nick does have issues...and he isn't telling Quinn about them yet, but we, the reader know.  His stuff is going to play an important role coming up...

As always, thanks for reading and reviewing.  I always look forward to your reviews and value your opinion.  And of course, I appreciate your honesty.  We have a bit to go here, more than I had originally planned, but we are definitely in the home stretch.  Prepared to be surprised...I still have quite a few curve balls in this story!

Summary:

She had always known what she wanted and had worked hard to make her dreams a reality, nothing would come between her and her ambitions....

....even if it meant saying goodbye to him

Yay an update!!

This was a very good update! I loved the fight between Adie & Rachel, that need to happen. I hope Adie does see that Nick is going to change and that he will be there for her. I can't wait to see what he does to convince her.

It was sweet how AJ talked to Adie, hopefully that conversation will sway her to give another chance. I can't wait for the next update!

Author's Response: Nick is going to try and lot of ways to prove to her that he is ready but some of them are just going to push her firther away! She isn't going to give in lightly and over the next few chapters you are going to see why! Thanks for the review!

Wow another update, that was fast, I like it!!

Adie is really starting to get on my nerves! She is not only being stubborn but she is being selfish AND a hypocrite. I know that she wants nothing but good for their daughter but come on, can't she atleast give Nick another chance without being so hard on him?? One thing that is really bothering me is how she keeps saying "you don't want this nick." She isn't him, so how can she keep saying that? Granted I know he said that in the past but the past is the past. Why can't she believe him when he says that he's ready? I honestly think its her, she is the one who doesnt want that perfect life because SHE is afraid of the commiment and everything else that goes along with it. Ugh why can't she just suck it up and take the risk?!

I know Nick is going to have to work his butt off to show her that he does care and that he really does love her. I did like the part where she reached into her purse and pulled out his sunglasses instead of hers, things like that really do happen. The small things do count and it goes to show you, you can run but you can't hide, something or someone will always be there to remind you of soomething or someone.

I like that you updated so quickly, keep up with the fast updates. I really like reading your story!

Author's Response:

She is being a hypocrite! But I would say within the nex three chapters you are going to find out why!! Nick is starting to get really pissed off at her telling him what he wants as well so you aren't the only one!! I'm not sure she is afraid of commitment though, I think she is scared of having everything she has ever wanted being ripped from her and you will find out why really oon!

Glad you liked the bit about the sunglasses. Thanks for the review!!!

I LOVE IT!!!!

Amazing update, I am so proud that he didn't run away. I also LOVED the way he yelled at her and called her out on the the failure part.

I also thought it was adorable when she said "she is due in november" and how he turned all soft. You can tell that he is already wrapped around the little girls finger, lol.

I can't wait to see how this story goes and what you have in store for it. I hope that they work everything out soon. Can't wait for the next update!

Author's Response:

Adie was not expecting Nick's reaction at all because he was so against it when they had discussed it. People quickly change though when it stops being a hypothetical situation and that is exactly what he has done. She is very pesimistic at the moment and I think she just feels that it hasn't all sunk in for him yet and when it does he is going to run.

She is just as vunerable as Nick but I don't think she has admitted that to herself yet, she has been just as hurt as he has in the past, and I think she left him before he could leave her or hurt her, it was a way of trying to soften the blow because that way she was the one who was in control, she called the shots, it just backfired slighty!

Thanks for the review!

OMG YOU FINALLY UPDATED!!!!

I can't friggin believe it! I do fail at life though lol. I didn't comment on the previous chapter and I'm sorry but I just read that chapter and this one. So I am caught up!

I love how far the characters have come in the story. Adie & Nick are both growing so much together as well as individually. The progress they are making is wonderful I am so happy that they are at a great part in their lives right now. I know it isn't easy to lose a child but I'm so happy that they have opened up to each other.

I do have to say that Rachel is a huge huge huge BIATCH! LOL. I have loved her character throughout this entire story and the way you portrayed her in this chapter made me love it even more. Though I do wish Rachel wouldn't of broke down and cried so easily and so soon. I know she's tough and I was kinda hoping to see more of it. But who knows what you have up your sleeve.

I hope that this update means that you will be updating more often now rather than writing papers, lol. Although now I'm the one who's writing papers for class. At any rate I hope you update soon and I can't wait!!

Brittany

Author's Response:

It's amazing that they have actually managed to go through what they have and make it as far as they have together. There is still a hell of a lot of stuff that they need to work on to get to a place of contentment in their lives though.

Rachel has a lot of unresolved issues with her family, I was kind of thinking about maybe doing a spin off with her side of things, might have to wait a while for that though. She definetly has a lot of resentment for Adie and I don't think AJ siding with her helped, it kind of reiterated that she doesn't matter, that once again she is playing second fiddle to her younger sister. There will definetly be more from this part of the story.
