Author Biography

No

My name is Rachel, I'm 29 years young and I live in Lexington, Kentucky (hometown of George Clooney *wink*) -- and perhaps a Backstreet Boy or two!
I have a degree in Child and Family Studies (Child Development) from Eastern Kentucky University and am currently working on my Master's degree in Interdisciplanary Early Childhood Education along with teaching Head Start.
I write mainly for fun, because I enjoy it and it's stress relieving. I've been on AC since around 2008 and have loved getting to know the other members and read some incredible stories!

How to Save a Life by Pengi Rated: PG-13 [ - ]
Summary:
This story has been abandoned, in favor of a reworked storyline. To read the updated story, check out The Time Watcher.

My name is Nick Carter and in five days, twelve hours, forty-two minutes and fifty-seven seconds I'm going to die. Unless I can save someone else's life. Then I'll get to stick around for five days, twelve hours, forty-seven minutes and fifty-seven seconds. Every time I save somebody's life, I get an extra five minutes. If I saved all estimated three point six billion people in the world I'd be able to live for approximately ... let's see, carry the one, cross out the six... eight and three is eleven.... 34,246 years, 150-something days, twelve hours, forty-two minutes and fifty-seven seconds. Heh. Thirty-four thousand years, huh? .... Could be kinda cool.

What an AMAZING story! Looking forward to updates!

Summary: As a guy who has sung the song “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)” at every Backstreet show for over a decade, I am pretty damn good at performing without thinking. Sometimes, like now, I just wish I could perform without feeling. God knows I’ve tried...

Still loving the story and I have to commend you for the whole part about the 'calm' you feel when someone you love is dying... you really nailed that. So true.

Author's Response: Thank you. I'm sorry you know what that feels like.

Yes!  I'm having a bad day damnit!!

YAY!!!!

Author's Response:

Thanks! I dunno if you read this when it was originally posted, but we hope to post updates a lot more regularly now.

Summary:

Brian Littrell and AJ McLean were not the type of men you’d expect to associate with one another. One was a music teacher and a family man; the other made his living in bars and tattoo parlors. Their paths sometimes paralleled, but never crossed… until fate altered the course of their lives. Through tragedy, the two men would meet… to bring justice to a life cut short.

*sniff* -- so touching. I'm really looking forward to reading this one! But West Jessamine (the gang school... really??) hehe, *I kid, I kid*

Author's Response: Thanks!! LMAO is it really?? This is why I'm afraid of writing about real places I know nothing about! LOL Anyway, thanks for reading and reviewing! :)

Lol, it has a "wee" bit of a rep, but it's not a bad school -- and Jessamine county (aka; Nicholasville) is a beautiful place to live (especially out in the country). In my opinion, you're doing a great job writing about a real place -- heck at least you USED a real place!

I just finished reading the second chapter about AJ, and I'm loving this story even more. Can't wait to see what direction it takes :O)

Author's Response: LOL thanks! I tried to research, but it's still hard when it's a place you've never been... and you know SOMEONE lives in that area and is going to know how far off you are! LOL It's so amazing, though, the things you can look up online nowadays. I was on street view in Google Maps, looking at the exact building on the exact street in the exact town where I set AJ's store LOL. So cool! Anyway, thanks for another review, and I'm glad to hear you're loving it even more after Chapter 2! :)

I just read this one for the first time. I'm a HUGE fan of scrubs (or at least of what Scrubs used to be!) and you so pegged JD in that story. It was sad, but exactly the kind of daydream he would have had and the kind of thoughts that would have been running through his mind.

Author's Response: Thanks so much for the review! I'm a huge scrubs fan (from earlier seasons) too, so I just couldn't resist trying to write (or collab on) a few fics. I have to give lots of credit to Chaos for getting JD's voice right, so I'll make sure he sees this, too!

Summary: Past Featured Story

The year was 2012 and the world was at war yet again, but for most of us, the fight seemed far from home. We were just ordinary people living our lives in the southeastern United States, and we had other priorities: families... careers... dreams.

But everything changed that day, the day on which Earth became Hell, the catalyst for a rapid chain of events which would bring us together, while destroying the human race. After that, it was just us: ten strangers against the world, a world utterly different from the one we had known... and it was up to us to save it.

I'm not sure I've reviewed this story before -- maybe back towards the beginning... but I've caught up now and just wanted to say wow... I'm amazed at how much work and effort you all have put into this. I could very easily see picking this up at the bookstore and reading it. It is so well thought out and so well written and so enjoyable. It reminds me of books like Z for Zachariah, Alas Babylon and The Road -- not that it's at all the same, because each of these stories is different from the other and each is different from yours, but each of them, including Song for the Undead touches on so many of the most basic and insurmountable of human fears and so how overcomes them.

I love and can relate to all of the characters and I can't wait to read more!

Author's Response: Thank you so much, Rachel! We're glad you caught up, and we so appreciate your review! This whole idea came out of a joke, but once we decided to actually write it, we wanted to take it seriously - yes it's a zombie story, and we're having fun with that, but we also wanted to make it truly dramatic, intense, frightening, and as realistic as we could, given the circumstances. We've definitely been inspired by a lot of things, from zombie movies and books to other post-apocalyptic stories. I read Z for Zachariah in high school; it's been awhile, so I don't remember all the details, but I loved the premise of it. I haven't read The Road, but I've been meaning to rent the movie sometime. The Stand by Stephen King is another one that has given us a lot of inspiration. Again, thanks so much for reading and for the great review! :)

So -- I'm not really sure how I've missed this story for so long... but I started reading on Thursday and now I'm completely caught up and I can't wait for an update! I'm loving it, especially the way you give each character's point of view and story.
I can't wait for the stories between the characters to really start developing as they will have to now that they're all together!

Author's Response: Thanks so much, Rachel! Glad you're liking it!! We really appreciate you giving it a try, and thanks so much for the review! We're excited for more interaction between the characters too now that they're coming together.

Wha??? WHA??? Another awesome update, but SO UNFAIR that you leave us all hanging like this!!! Howie the hemo with blood spilling from his body cannot be good at all... EEK!

Author's Response: Thanks! And you're right, it is... but we're evil, and we love being evil LOL.

I'm still loving this story :O) The characters get more likeable with each chapter -- and not just more likeable, but more believable as characters who would actually exist in this type of world.

I saw a preview for "Walking Dead" on Youtube earlier and immediately thought of Song for the Undead... which is saying a lot about your story, that it's the first place my mind went. I really do think this story would make an awesome movie!

Oh and PS -- I had kind of been hoping that Gretchen would end up pregnant since she, ya know, slept with her husband the night before the virus struck... but alas... le sigh... wink wink, hint hint.... :O)

Author's Response: Thanks Rachel! We really try to be as realistic as we can, to help balance out the fact it's a world overrun by zombies lol. OMG we saw the preview too! We're both really excited about that debuting on TV. We're so flattered you immediately thought of our story! And the fact you think it'd be a good movie is a huge compliment. :).Thanks!

:( Okay... not ashamed to admit that I shed many tears over this chapter! I wasn't a huge Kayleigh fan but dang... didn't want to see her die! Didn't want to see any of them die. Good twist though, definitely did not see it coming!

Author's Response: Aww, did you really? Love it! I take that as a huge compliment, so thank you!! We wanted to kill somebody off at some point to show that the zombies are still a threat, even if they can't infect them with a bite. Didn't want them feeling too safe or anything. ;) Glad you liked the twist, and we appreciate your review! Thanks, Rachel! :)
