You're right, this isn't a traditional Nick story. :) Strangely, Nick eliminating the "best" from his description of his friendship with Brian is what got to me the most. Eagerly awaiting the next update!!
Author's Response: I try not to write traditional stories at all. I find traditional boring. Luckily, my brain works in twisty ways to bring on the crazy. There's a lot of places this story's going to touch before it's over and Brian and Nick's friendship happens to be one of them (which is one of the main reasons I chose VSD to be the condition Matty's got). Hope you enjoy the next update -- 'tis up!
I kinda expected Nick to keep Matty a secret from Lauren for a good while! LOL. I can't wait to see how this all plays out, especially for Abbey ... poor girl has so much to deal with!
Author's Response: haha I think in most stories like this he probably would've kept it a secret for about 90% of the story, but I've got a different kind of twist in store. ;)
I just caught up on the last two chapters. All I have to say, is: Phil is amazing!! Bahahahaha! LOVE IT!

I'm not sure if I liked the whole Lauren coming to the hospital thing. I get that she's trying to be supportive, but I don't think that it was her place to come and visit Matty. If I was Abbey, I probably would have handled that situation poorly. I was impressed that she didn't freak out. :) Also, the cliffy is KILLING me!! Update!!

Author's Response: Thank you :) I'm glad you're enjoying the story. One of these days, I'm gonna write a full story just about the fall out between Nick & Brian that I imagine in my head. Seems my best stories are Frick & Frack related (like Something Beautiful and Borrowed Time). It'd be an interesting part of the BSB history to explore. We'll see if I ever get there with it. :) Thanks again for the review!
Just finished the latest two chapters. Amazing as always! I loved the fact that Nick brought Matty his first turkey and I was enthralled by Brian and Nick's phone call. I think it's great how you have created a whole secondary story line with the two of them. Also, I totally think that Brian is gonna show up at the hospital with a miracle weilding doctor in tow. :)
Author's Response: Secondary storylines are one of my favorite writing devices. All my stories always have at least one or two underlying storylines that go on in the background or alternate for foreground. I rarely write a story that's straight up just the face value of the story... Sometimes without anyone really even noticing it until I wrap everything together. My Frick & Frack stuff always seems to crawl its way in. Those two and their relationship has always fascinated me, so it tends to sneak in even when I don't particularly plan for it to.
Have I mentioned that Phil is amazing?? Perhaps he will be the one to pass away and donate his heart to Matty ... but his heart might be too old. Hmmmmmm
Author's Response: Phil is pretty amazing. ...I love all the random guesses I'm getting for how this is gonna end, LOL.
I can't decide if I want Nick and Abbey to get together again or not. I think I'm leaning towards yes ... maybe the next chapter will help me make up my mind. :P
Author's Response: I'm honestly surprised by the number of mixed reviews I've gotten from people seeing this chapter. A lot of people said the same thing that you did about being unsure about the Nick/Abbey combination. Interesting!! haha ...Keep me posted on your lean!! LOL ;)
I loved the fact that Matty was Nick for Halloween. Best costume idea ever!! LOL. Overall, I just love the interaction between Nick and Matty ... too cute.
Author's Response: LOL This whole scene of looking at baby stuff and Matty's Nick costume was one of the very first scenes of this story that I envisioned when I started doing the storyboard for it. I could just picture a little Mini-Nick prancing around Trick or Treating singing BSB songs for all the neighbors and flipping his leather jacket off his shoulder.
Hmmmm I think that I am now leaning more towards "Team Abbey". As if Lauren was sick!! I think that she was just trying to air out the room and cover her tracks because she had just finished having some sexy time with whatever-his-name-is from the game store. On a completely unrelated note, how sweet is Brian?!?! Nick called him his "best friend" - AMAZING!
Author's Response: I was really excited to have Nick introduce Brian and I was hoping everyone would catch the addition of BEST this time, where it was missing last time he talked about Brian. I'm glad you caught it! :)
Wow ... Lauren has some serious issues. She certainly succeeded in breaking Nick's heart. We'll see if she continues to be happy with her decision as time goes on. I would be willing to bet that she tries to win Nick back.
I'm super happy that Matty gets to spend Christmas at home!! I would also be willing to bet that Nick is going to make it the best Christmas that the little guy has ever had! :)
Author's Response: I'm in agreement with Abbey about Lauren - she'd have to be nuts to cheat on Nick! But I'm pretty sure we haven't heard the last of Lauren... I'm excited to write Matty's Christmas at home it's going to be a lot of fun. ;)
How many Christmas decorations can two Backstreet Boys purchase at Walmart?? My guess is the whole damn store!!

Those Elf on the Shelf things creep me out!! LOL. It seems as though Matty is quite taken with Jeraldo, and it was super sweet of Nick to go through all of that trouble. Although I wasn't feeling the whole Abbey/Nick relationship in the beginning, I am now definitely waiting for them to hook up! Let's go already!! :)
