I did use that in one of the stories of the Nick and Amanda series, that he had a car accident t because he was speeding but in Incomplete he was in a coma because of a accident on stage during one of the shows

Welcome back, Tracy!  Was Nick in a coma because he was running late and speeding? LOL

LOL yes I think my first ever story had the main character rushing as she was going to be late  for work.  I didn't realise it was a thing either.

Came across this Reddit thread that claimed, "Every writer's first draft of their first every written piece started with something Running late, or speeding, or just going somewhere quick. What's your Story?"

I was like, "Not mine!" and then immediately went to look.  In fact, my first (and only) draft of my first fanfic DOES start with Kevin and Howie telling Brian to hurry up so they can get to rehearsal on time.  That's after the even more cliched beginning of main character Brian waking up.  Also, he's in his water bed, which made me laugh because I just watched that Frank Skinner interview from 2005 when they were making fun of his water bed a couple weeks ago LOL. http://www.dreamers-sanctuary.com/vault/heartache1.html

In other words, I am (or was) a walking cliche.

Anyone else start their first story this way?  I didn't even realize this was a thing.

The Stand was one of my favorite of his books but I remember it was really intimidating to see how many pages it was. A lot of his books are like that. I remember feeling the same way about The Tommyknockers although that wasn’t nearly as good.

I remember going through phases where it would take me forever to get through a book but now it seems that’s all I’m able to do is read lol I hope you both enjoy Final Girl. Like Julie said, it’s not the best thing ever but I found it enjoyable and kind of funny.

I think you’d both enjoy Good Neighbors as well.

I loved The Stand!  I've only read it once because it's so long, but it was one of my favorites by King.  It did take me some time to get into it, but once I did, it was absolutely worth the read.  It's epic!

I'm still slowly working my way through Final Girl.  I'm like you, Steph, where lately I've only been reading a few pages a night (and not every night), so it's taking me way longer to read than it should.  It's not the best book I've ever read, but I'm enjoying it.

I'm feeling more confident that it will actually happen this year.  I saw they're going to appear on the Kelly Clarkson show this spring, so something must be in the works.  Hopefully more European dates are on the way, too!

I'm sure our old stories all have that "beginner" quality to them, regardless of how old we were when we started writing.  And I still write childish stuff sometimes, like my pandaskunk stories - but that can be fun!
