Chapter Thirty-Seven: Newlywedded Bliss

Nick and Alyssa collapsed against the bed in a heated sweaty heap on the bed both parties completely out of breath laying parallel to each other staring up at the ceiling. "Fuck..." Nick said breathlessly.

Alyssa giggled and rolled over to lay on top of him. "Don't tell me you're ready again?" She joked making him get a shocked look on his face.

"No, you are wearing me out..." He shot back wrapping his arms around her. "But God damn...whatever this is please don't let it stop." He added making her grin.

She sighed and leaned down kissing him. "I think going off my birth control has made me like superwoman. On it I could go a few days, few weeks without sex but without it? Fuck I feel like a teenager. That and it doesn't help that my husband happens to be looking pretty damn good lately."

"Really huh?" Nick asked feeling a little smug about her appreciation of all the hard work he'd been putting in at the gym.

"Yes, I think the fans are noticing it too. I mean I've always loved the way you look and all...."

"But..."

"But I really like this...a lot. Especially the sex now it's more fevered...hotter than ever." She remarked boosting his ego all that much more.

"Okay, stop seriously I'm going to get a complex about this." He shot back rolling her over. "It's not that I don't appreciate it, just you don't have to tell me, I can see the reaction I get from you just from seeing your face." He replied. It was true he didn't need any verbal communication anymore to what she thought about him physically. It was shown on her face every time she'd look over at him, it was one of two expressions, contentment or hunger, either way he knew she was really happy with him, with everything in their life at the moment.

She smiled at him and took his hand lacing their fingers as she draped her body along his side. "Are you happy?" She asked. She knew he had to be at least to some extent. He was funnier than usual, a clear indication that he was content with his life at the moment. The jokes on stage were fresher than usual; he hadn't gotten tired of them and had even added new ones to the mix that made it different.

Nick wrapped his arms around her and sighed, "Do you really even have to ask?" He replied.

She smirked and rested her head on his chest. "Good. I'm kind of excited though with being back on tour and everything. It's definitely different, the tabloids are making me laugh though with the incessant dissection of the wedding."

"That's to be expected though, I mean with all that we went through in the public eye and all of that I'm sure they thought we'd be like all into the media hoopla and shit. I'm glad we proved them wrong. Even E! is trying to cash in on it with a third season."

Alyssa propped herself up on her elbow and looked at him pensively. "And?" It wasn't that she didn't want to do another season of the show. She actually wouldn't mind it if he wanted to, but at the same time she just didn't know when they would find the time to be a married couple, or try to have a family.

"And...I told them no. I'm happy now, settled and I don't want to bring cameras that willingly back into our home. I mean for Christ's sake we're moving out of LA to get away from that life, so why bring it with us?"

"True. I'd have to agree with you there. Especially now that we're trying to have a normal life, well as much as we can get. Still I'm excited though, I mean we're going to start trying to have a family soon."

"Correction already trying..." Alyssa shot back making Nick's ramble stop in its tracks.

"Wh..What?" He said a look of happy surprise on his face. "You mean we could be...right now?"

She smiled and shook her head ‘no'. "It's still a little early. I mean I went off it before the wedding, that's one of the reasons why I didn't want to have sex before the wedding. I don't know if it's fully out of my system yet but I wanted to say something. You know, no pressure sort of thing, we're not consciously trying okay?"

"What do you mean?"

"I don't want us to get so focused on getting pregnant that we lose ourselves to it. So we go on, business as usual like nothing's happening and if something does awesome. If after a few months of just going without any protection and nothing happens we'll readdress it then but honestly I don't believe we'll have much of a problem. I don't want us to stress over the act of getting pregnant. Ollie and Angie did and their relationship was strained for bit because they were so obsessed with getting it done."

"So I should just be on the look out for the signs right?" He asked remembering exactly what they were. He had to admit the thought that they were trying without really "trying" in the conventional sense made him even more giddy for it to happen. It shocked him a little that he was just so settled in his life that the mere thought of watching his wife's body change and have that pregnancy glow that came with made him calm, settled and incredibly ecstatic about the idea. A few years back he had resigned himself to never wanting children or least of all to be married at all let alone being happily married.

"If you notice something let me know, but other than that, don't think about it much. I think if we obsess about it; it won't happen. So just relax and let it happen."

"I think I can do that."

A week later...

"So are you sure about this? I mean bringing her out on stage...doesn't she hate that?" Brian asked looking over at Nick.

Nick sighed and shrugged. "I wanted to do this much earlier but I think now is the perfect time to introduce her officially as my wife. I mean hell we've been married for a solid month now. And the tour is going on hiatus after tonight for Howie so he can be with his dad. I think this is the best time to do this. And she'll love the song I have planned before I bring her out on stage. She knows the significance of it more than anyone else she knows."

Brian nodded and smiled at him as they went out to the sound check greeting the fans that had gathered there. Nick waved at them and saw Alyssa standing off to the side with the other wives smiling up at him with pride. He grinned back and stuck his tongue out at her playfully making her chuckle back at him. He joked around and sang with the others, playing with Baylee and then went down to speak to the fans. He smiled for pictures and some of the girls flirted with him, only serving to make him chuckle and thank them for the flattery. After he was done with speaking to them he moseyed on over to Alyssa and the other girls.

"Hey ladies..." He said to them as he wrapped his arm around Alyssa's waist his fingertips grazing her hipbone.

"Shouldn't you be working?" Alyssa reminded trying to get him to spend more time with his fans. It wasn't that she didn't like the overtly public personal attention he was giving but at the same time, she knew his duty was to entertain the fans and the sound check party wasn't over quite yet.

"Like you don't have papers to grade." He shot back making her grin at him widely then leaned up placing a sweet but all too short kiss to his lips.

"And a discussion board to moderate." She added before he leaned over for another kiss. She broke the kiss feeling quite a few pairs of eyes focused in their direction and that was accompanied by quite a few snaps of pictures as well. "Those will be online tonight I'm sure." She smirked quietly to him.

Nick laughed and left her momentarily going back over to the small throng of fans that were all rather excited to see the exchange between them. Alyssa watched him smiling at how easily he fell into conversation with them signing things, getting more pictures taken. She loved being able to watch that side of him show through. The humble musician happily greeting his fans. It was definitely a stark contrast to the onstage cocky goofball that the fans so eagerly adored.

Kellie looked at Alyssa and nudged her in the shoulder, "You're doing it again." She chided playfully.

Alyssa turned shooting her a puzzled glance, "Doing what exactly?" She asked getting a look on her face.

"Being the disgustingly adorable couple. It really is a whole new level of nasty between the two of you." Kellie retorted making Alyssa's incredulous expression fade in favor of a rather amused grin.

She shrugged and sighed contentedly. "I can't exactly help that, we're kind of in the honeymoon phase right now so I guess you'll just have to deal with it." Both girls laughed to themselves as they all walked back stage to hang out in the dressing room before the show. "Besides, you were just as disgusting just after you and Alex got married, Leigh and Howie were as well, and I'm sure the Brian and Leighanne too." She added reminding them that all of them had gone through the same blissful stage so early in their marriages.

"Just wait until your first fight. And then the whole dry spell will happen too."

"The fight I'm not worried about, I know we'll have to argue eventually, hell we argued all the time when we were dating so that I'm sure will happen and I'm totally not worried about. But dry spell?"

"Yeah after the honeymoon phase you'll go through this period where you just don't even desire to be intimate for awhile. Like cuddling on the couch with a sports game on the television is the perfect night in."

Alyssa shrugged, "See that doesn't even phase me right now. We've had dry spell's that have lasted months and we survived. I know he won't go on for that long without sex again so I'm sure I'll have to get in the mood even when I'm not feeling the sexiest. Besides I hopefully will be having raging hormones soon so that won't happen for a while."

"What do you mean?" Kellie asked looking between the two of them and the other girls. She couldn't possibly mean what she could be meaning right?

Alyssa grinned, "You three have got to keep this on the DL but I'm not on my birth control anymore, and you know we don't exactly use condoms."

Kellie's eyes lit up as did the Leigh and Leighanne's, "Seriously?! You're trying to have a baby?" Kellie nearly shrieked.

"Keep it down woman! But yes...we're unconsciously-consciously trying."

"And that would mean what exactly?"

Alyssa giggled a little and sat down comfortably on the white leather sofa the venue had provided. "It means that we're trying to have a family but not like tracking my ovulation or forcing conception sex down each other's throats. We're doing it the old fashioned way, no protection and see what happens."

Kellie grinned brightly and sighed, "I'm excited for you!" She exclaimed softly. "I mean this is so good for the both of you and all that."

"Well it hasn't happened yet, so please forget we ever had this conversation I don't want him to know I went and blabbed to my friends that we're kinda trying to get pregnant. We've been married a month and some people may think it's far too soon for all of that and it's not...the wedding itself was so long overdue that this is the perfect time for it to happen, we're both at good places in our careers that taking a little downtime here and there would be easy to do, and the tour will be over by the holidays and then they'll be recording, so it would be perfect so we can spend some time at home when either of us aren't working. But we don't want to push it, or pressure each other at all. Because seriously I watched Ollie and Angie go through all of those shots and fertility appointments and granted they can't really conceive the natural way and all that, but still do you realize how hard that would be for Nick or myself to admit we had fertility issues? I mean we've conceived by accident twice before now."

Leighanne nodded in agreement, "It took us forever to get pregnant with Baylee, we tried for over a year and the second we stopped trying is when it happened. It's really all in the mindset I think, if you just hope for the best I think that's what will happen for you. And besides it'll be fun to see Nick with a little one he's always playing around with Bay and loves your nephew and Cedric to death."

"I know it's really weird to even be thinking about this again. I mean like years ago I knew Nick would never want kids let alone get married or that he even really saw me as something more than just his friend. But just goes to show how naïve I was back then."

"Yeah what a difference 5 years or so makes." Kellie quipped giving her a look. "Seriously, look at me, I'm a Mom, a married woman, and a stylist. I mean if we even went back 2 years, I was dating your brother-in-law, bartending and in college."

Alyssa grinned at her and sighed, "I know this growing up thing is so weird to look back on everything. It's like whoa, I did all of that? And really it's not much in comparison to others, I mean look at all that the guys have done..."

That night...

Nick smiled as all the fans screamed as he walked out on stage, an acoustic guitar around his back, and placed a stool just in front of the microphone. He looked down at Alyssa sitting in the pit with the rest of the girls, looking casual and comfy as ever, jeans, tee-shirt, hair up in a messy bun. He adjusted the mic a little before speaking into it. "I wanted to finish off my solo portion of the show with a new song I wrote not too long ago. I hope it'll be on my next solo album but we'll see what the record company thinks of this. You all are the first to hear it but you're not the first to know the lyrics. This is a very personal song to me and I hope you all like it." He said as he began to strum on his guitar.

Alyssa looked at him smiling contently beaming with pride that he was sharing something personal to him that he wrote. She looked to the other girls who were looking at her questioningly. Alyssa simply smiled and shrugged not knowing of the song he had planned. However the second she heard the first line of lyrics her eyes widened and she turned to look at the stage where her husband was singing...not just any song...the song he wrote...for her.

"Honey you are rock....upon which I stand and I come here to talk. I hope you understand. That green eyes, yeah the spotlight, shines upon you. And how could, anybody, deny you. I came here with a load. And it feels so much lighter, now I've met you. And honey you should know, that I could never go on without you..."

Alyssa's smile grew brighter. She figured he might have pulled something like this just after they had gotten married, not after a month of marriage. As the song continued she grinned wider and wider then was brought out of her prideful stare with a tap on her shoulder. She looked up to see Frank standing before her. She got up and followed him knowing that apparently Nick wanted her backstage. She looked down at her appearance silently hoping that he wasn't planning on bringing her out there.

She stood backstage seeing Nick sitting on the stool finishing up the song. He set his guitar down and continued to talk to the crowd for a moment. "If you hadn't found out already, I finally took the plunge a month ago and got married." He said making the crowd erupt in cheers. "And that song is what I wrote for my wife." He smiled making the crowd go into more hysterics. "In fact." He said standing up and walking over to the alcove of the stage that led to the back where Alyssa was standing with Frank. He smiled and held his hand out to her. "Come on..." He semi-commanded.

She balked for a second digging her heels into the floor. "Nooo I am not going out there Nickolas...I look like a complete scrub."

"You didn't mind sitting in the pit like that."

"That's different..."

Nick leaned in and kissed her sweetly, "Come on...I'll make it as painless as possible." He said reassuringly then took her hand lacing their fingers and dragged her out on stage. "I wanted to introduce all of you...to someone you may have seen before...I'd like you to meet my wife." He said happily making Alyssa blush profusely and hide her face. "Liss babe? Say hello to the fans..."

Alyssa smiled and bid everyone hello through the microphone jumping slightly at the horrendously loud screams that came at her. "Wow...so this is what it's like up here." She said into the mic.

Nick laughed and replied, "See what you've been missing ‘Mrs. Nose Stuck in a Book Carter'." He retorted making her laugh.

"Yes I can definitely see the appeal however I think I'll leave the performing up to the professional in this relationship." She shot back in return.

Nick smiled and brought her in for a kiss making her blush as the fans erupted again before them. Never in her life had she been that embarrassed, not even when he'd sang happy birthday to her on the Never Gone tour nearly three years beforehand. She broke the kiss and smiled at him before hightailing it out of the stage and back down into the pit where she buried her face into her knees as she sat.

"I cannot believe he did that!" She muttered to Kellie who was laughing rather hard at her.

"Well I think it was cute."

"Yeah...cute all right. I'm gonna kill him later I swear."

"No you won't." Kellie reasoned back.

Alyssa sighed and shrugged looking back to the stage where the others had joined him and smiled. "No probably not..."
