Title: Documentary, star and anything else lol
Post by: mare on April 24, 2013, 02:46:41 PM
I figured I'd start another thread so we wouldn't get too off topic in the other one. I just finished watching the ten minute clip of the documentary and once again came close to tears a few times. I can't wait to see that! I'm actually looking forward to that as much as the new music. I really hope it gets a nationwide release and not just limited cities.

I wonder if Kevin wanted to bitch slap the audience for screaming while it was playing. I know I wanted to bitch slap them.

Nick knows you love him! We don't need to scream it out every ten seconds people! Shut the hell up and watch the movie!!

I am so excited to see this!  I can't believe people screamed through the whole preview.  I guess even after 20 years, some things haven't changed. LOL

Can I just say I have been loving all of these radio interviews and guest appearances. The guys seem SO happy it's infectious to watch and listen to and I have to admit, you know I haven't been a Brian fan in a very long time but I am starting to get a sense that Frick and Frack are kind of back. Just a more adult version of them. The way they are all interacting with one another is just awesome! I know they're just at the beginning of all the promo and stuff but I really hope it keeps up.

They are also sounding fabulous! I love when they do IAWLT with just the acoustic guitars!

Just wanted to come in and share.

Maybe if you guys have any links of things you'd like t share especially while they are in London, I guess this would be a good place to post them.

Aww, me too!!  I was just thinking yesterday how lucky I am to be a BSB fan.  Who could have known back in 1997 that Backstreet would STILL be coming back again in 2013?  I know they sang it in their song, but still! LOL  Fans of every other boyband have had to watch their group crumble, but not us!  Ours never stopped and is still going strong!  So proud of our Boys!!

I am especially enjoying having Kevin back this time, and I like what you said about Frick and Frack, Mare.  I wonder if they're just finding common ground again, now that Nick is engaged and has finally grown up and caught up to Brian.  They were so similar in the early days, and then Brian turned into this holy-roller family man, while Nick spiraled into a mess who drank and did drugs and dated Paris Hilton.  How could they relate to each other back then?  But now that Nick has settled down, he probably gets Brian better, and Brian probably respects him more.  They're still two different people, but at least they have something besides being a Backstreet Boy in common again.

I'm also loving it! I recorded them on Daybreak this morning so I could watch when I got home from work.  I kept rewinding and watching it over and over :)

I have to say that Brian's singing is sounding a hell of a lot better now, so that's a good thing.

I'm glad Brian sounded good!  I haven't seen or heard anything from the UK stuff yet.  He still sounded "off" on the US stuff, I thought.  It's not like his voice is off KEY; it just sounds so weak, like he has a hard time projecting it.  It doesn't have the power it used to.  He sounds better on the high notes, and the low notes usually aren't bad; it seems to be the middle of his range where he has the most trouble, which is weird.

I just feel bad for him; it's clear at this point that he can't help it.  It's not just nerves or not hearing the music or being sick or having an off performance.  I really think the H1N1 flu or something has messed up his vocal cords, unless he has polyps or something like Adele did.  I hope it either gets better on its own or that he gets treatment for it because it kind of breaks my heart every time I hear him sing live these days. :(  It's a lot more noticeable on TV than it is live, though.  I thought he sounded great during both the TIU and NKOTBSB tour and on the cruise, and once he gets into a song, it seems to get better - he always sounds better at the ends of songs than when he has solos at the beginning.  Who knows...  I don't really like to talk about this, but I'm about to the "acceptance" part of the five stages of grief over Brian's voice, so I guess it's time to.

Welcome all to "Frick&Frack fans club"  :D :D :D

Those two are so spoiling him with all their love! I can't help but love them, even though I'm not a Nick fan. (sorry Nick! lol)

Yes, it is. Especially since the China tour dates. And man, his parts in IAWLT are something precious.

I don't think I'll ever reach the "acceptance" part, I still hope that he would be back to that amazing voice he has always have. Mostly because it's Brian, he has proved people and fate wrong for all his life. But I worry. Not only for his voice, clearly, but for him as a person. Because it can't be easy knowing that you can't work at your fullest and knowing that you're gonna let down fans and people who love you and believe you. And that makes me admire him more and more because he still goes out and does his job, fighting his anxiety and problems.
That's what really gets me because you can see how bad he feels if he does something wrong. I just wanna hug him.
And seriously.... how come no one has already wrote something? This has angst and drama written all over! lol

I love Brian, and I truly hope this is something that can be fixed.  I miss his voice.  My place of "acceptance" isn't being okay with how it is now, but accepting that there is a problem with it, instead of being in denial over it and blaming it on nerves or a cold or something.  I hope his feelings haven't been hurt, but I kind of wish he would acknowledge it and, if he knows what's caused it, explain it to us.  That would set the record straight and stop all the speculation that's been going on about this for the past couple of years.  Who knows, maybe he's in denial about it too.

I have thought about writing a fanfic about this, but I think it's just too real and too raw to do right now.  It would just make me sad.  I prefer to give them fictional drama.  That said, I may have gotten the idea for the Brian suspense story I mentioned in the question thread from thinking about this.  :thpt:  (Where's a devil smiley when I need one?  Close enough, I guess!)

Just to change the subject, since this thread got kind of dark and depressing all of a sudden... Who else is in love with "In a World Like This?"  I think it was a great choice for a first single.  It's cute, catchy, has great lyrics, and from what I've seen, it's getting great reviews!  Maybe it will even get some radio play!

I absolutely love it!  I agree, it is a great choice of single and I hope it gets the radio play it deserves.

I loved In a World Like This! And I also love Permanent Stain. I really would have been okay with either as a single. I have to say I really adore all the other snippets of songs I have heard or the ones they have sung while on tour. I did watch the China video a few times now because why not? lol I think AJ mentioned that Madeline was going to be the next single, I really like that one too!

So Julie, are you going to have Brian's vocal problem be that he swallowed Satan? LMAO I HATE when that happens!!

In all honestly with the Brian thing, I have been going through my books for singers and one of my old teachers gave us like a ten page handout of vocal problems and solutions. I am not a professional by any stretch of the imagination (okay, I am a professional lol but I felt like I had to say that before I make this call because I am not an audiologist) I am pretty sure it's not nodes. I think whatever is happening to Brian has more to do with a hearing issue than a vocal issue. I think he's having trouble hearing and that's why he's shaky at the beginning of things, once he gets the hang of it, he feels more comfortable. Also a breath control issue that he's HAD for a very long time but I think whatever is going on with his ears is making that even worse.

He is really comfortable in his upper range, like Julie said and he can still belt like no one's business. If he really had nodes, I don't think he'd be able to do that. There are times when his voice is crystal clear but never at the beginning of songs.

Anyway, I do hope I'm actually really, very wrong. It wouldn't be the first time. But if I had Brian as one of my students, I would have told his parents to bring him to an audiologist to get checked out.

I am kind of glad we are discussing this, even though it's depressing, I feel like it's a GIGANTIC elephant in the room when it comes to them. I do wish they'd address it but maybe he's still trying to get a proper diagnosis and wants to wait before he does. I hope it's not denial, sometimes I think it is because judging by his horrible wife's tweets I have a feeling he's not happy by the lack of solos he has.

And I also don't think it has anything to do with the swine flu. I wouldn't be surprised if he blamed that though. I have been saying for years that Brian has been having trouble hearing his pitches at the beginning of songs, I just think that it's gotten to the point he can no longer hide it the same way Leighanne is having a harder time masking her jerkiness, that once again I have been saying for years!  lol

Yes, it seems to be the beginning where he sounds awful and then as the song progresses he sounds better.  Like on IAWLT, he sounded great, but other songs, not so good.  His wife annoys me, she's an attention whore from what I see of her!

I don't think it's denial, especially given the fact that for a long time he couldn't even speak so... but I do think he's still trying to get a proper diagnosis. Different situation but my best friend had to wait like four years before finding out exactly what was wrong with her and start a therapy.

I think I'm the only one who doesn't care about what all the wives tweet or say.  :D :D

You can even hear it in his speaking voice sometimes, though; his voice just sounds hoarse a lot of the time.  That's what makes me think it's not a hearing issue so much as some kind of damage to his vocal cords that affects his voice at a certain pitch.  Because I've also noticed that when he's doing his little impressions, whether speaking or singing, it usually sounds a lot better.  It seems to just be his normal, middle-of-the-range voice that's most affected.

So Julie, are you going to have Brian's vocal problem be that he swallowed Satan? LMAO I HATE when that happens!!

Damn, you nailed it!!

LMAO In all seriousness, no, but OMG, that's kind of an epic idea, a story about Brian being possessed by the devil.  I could get behind that!

That's a major epic idea.

If you want to write it, go for it!  I would seriously consider writing something like that myself, but I have too many stories in progress and too many ideas in the line-up to start it anytime soon, unless it was just going to be a short story.

I can picture a banner for it already... a creepy close-up of Brian's face, where he's staring straight at you... maybe give his eyes a reddish glow.  And the title, in creepy font, stretching over his head:  "There's Something Wrong With Brian."  Dun dun DUN!

I'm tempted, especially because I love writing "bad guys". But no, I can't. lol I've already too many stories too.

Gosh... Brian's pissed stare is perfect for that banner. lol

And even with his spoken voice, he sounds hoarse and unsure of himself, like people who can't hear what they are saying. I don't know, just my thinking. If I'm right, you all owe me a dollar! LOL

Mare, you could be wrong, but with the training you have, I'd say you're definitely onto something, whether it's the whole problem or not!  Has anyone seen the video of the soundcheck in China where they're singing "In A World Like This" and Nick and Brian are doing their ad libs-- Nick is totally helping Brian find his notes with hand gestures.  It's actually a really cute Frick and Frack moment, but I'd never really put two and two together.  Nick is stooping down and pointing up with his finger while Brian watches as he sings.  Brian nails it, by the way, but I think the hearing thing definitely makes sense. Now, here's where my professional training comes in, and it may be totally out in left field, but one of the primary drugs that is used to treat bacterial endocarditis is notorious for causing ototoxicity, which can manifest as hearing loss in later years. ??? I kind of just had an aha! moment there,  Like Mare, I hope it's not the case, but it kind of makes sense.

I see what you mean about the pointing thing, but Brian's eyes were closed. I think he was just pointing to prove a point that Brian was going high but I did see him point to him a few times before that so he could very well have been trying to help him out and yes Howie was saying Nick was free ballin' once again proving that Howie might be a little too obsessed with Nick's private parts! LOL!

He might have been, it's hard to tell because he was bent over, which is a way to get the breath support you need to hit high notes. I just wish someone would flat out ask him what the deal is! Any volunteers? You can say Mare wants to know LOL

I kind of wish someone would ask him too, but it won't be me!  Way too awkward.  Whatever's going on, he'll probably come forward about it at some point when he's ready.  For now, selfishly, I'm fine with him not acknowledging it and performing like there's nothing wrong.  At least he's performing and seems like he wants to be performing.  And if it's not something that can be helped, he might as well just pretend like nothing's wrong and keep going.

Thanks, Cinzia!

That google chat was cute but a little annoying. I think it was the hosts that annoyed me. I felt like they stepped out of a bad SNL skit or something! LOL

On a side note, I want them to do an entire concert of just singing with Nick and Brian accompanying on acoustic guitar and an occasional tambourine with AJ lmao

The questions were pretty lame. But I loved Brian's joke about The Wanted and the 1D. lol
And now I'm expecting someone to write a story about Nick and the panic button.  :D :D :D

Yes, I'm so loving them playing the guitar. I admit that I prefer the acustic version rather than the normal IAWLT.

Are there any links posted anywhere from the breakfast thing they did on Saturday or the fan even on Sunday besides just the songs?

Not that I know.

So, the new music video...

Anyone else surprised (pleasantly but still) that they had one with an actual (relevant) story?

I was! I went in with low expectations in all honesty and was pleasantly surprised to see a semi storyline. I wish more emphasis would have been placed on it, but baby steps! I did panic at the end when they just really focused on that woman's face when she was looking at something and we didn't know what. I was thinking they were going to pan out to a panda-skunk! Lmao

I love the video!  I had low expectations for it, too, after they tweeted the pic from the shooting.  I figured it would be another boring scenery video, but it was a scenery video with a point!  Yay Backstreet Boys!  A random pandaskunk would have definitely made it more epic, but I love the real ending just the way it is.

OMG Nick's little chat he did last night made me just love him even more! LOL

That dog! I want that dog now!

And I really admire how he explained to everyone what the deal is when it comes to asking for money and that he didn't 'need' the money and could easily match it. The excitement in his voice as he talked about it made me even want to donate to his cause! LOL Maybe I will donate $5 if he's still looking for money by the time I'd be able to afford to do it.

I just thought the entire thing was adorable and worth mentioning. Also love how he answered most questions without bothering to let us know what was asked in the first place. LMAO

Oh one other thing, that kind of relates back to the question thread and stolen ideas! Do you guys remember when we were talking about story ideas we had in the works and I mentioned an OF? Yeah well my OF idea was a suspense where someone figured out that we're all actually already dead, but some of us are in a living hell while others are already in heaven but we are all cohabiting on Earth. So, when he said the whole we're all dead thing I just had to laugh! Maybe I should write it as a film script and send it to him! LMAO

Oh yay, I'm glad the chat made it online!

I like how he explained about the donations and why he doesn't want to go to investors right away too because then they will just want to change everything.  It should be his movie, made the may he wants it to be.

That sounds like an interesting idea, Mare!  You should start an indiegogo campaign to fund it! LOL

I enjoyed that Access Hollywood interview! Once again they seemed happy and sounded great and oh my god are they serious that Joey wanted to be in the BSB? lmao that is sad.

I thought it was nice they asked Nick about his heart thing. I have never heard him talk about it in front of the guys before. That's why they asked Brian how he was doing, because of his heart thing from back in the day. They asked him if he was as health conscious as Nick and he said no but it's a process day by day. I was hoping they had addressed his vocal problems because on twitter I was give that impression but there's no doubt in my mind he was just talking about the heart thing and it makes sense that they brought it up. They probably read about his heart issues when doing research. Ah, research. Always nice when an interviewer knows what they are talking about! LOL

LMAO OMG, I meant to post about the Joey thing, but then I got distracted by the end of the interview and forgot.  That is really sad!  Can you imagine?!  If there's anything that could have hurt my fanship, it would be an NSync member taking Kevin's place!  Good god, short of one of them dying, I can't imagine anything worse than that!

There were a couple of very sweet Kick moments in that interview - the first was when Kevin was talking about what he did during his time off, and Nick brought up his acting and complimented him on Chicago.  The other was when Nick was talking about turning his life around, and Kevin said he was obsessed with fitness and counting his calories - you could tell Kevin's proud of him, even if he didn't say so exactly.  I thought that was sweet.

I do think the interviewer was referring to Brian's heart surgery when she turned that question on him, and that might be why his answer was fairly vague, since that was 15 years ago LOL.  It's not like he has to work at hard as staying in good shape as Nick does.  I do like that she asked Nick about it, though, because, like you said, it's not something we've seen him talk much about, especially in a group interview.  Good chance to plug his book, too!  I'm getting excited for this book too! LOL

I'm one of those who didn't thought that Brian's answer was totally about his heart problems. For the simple reason that he looked quite uncomfortable and when asked in the past he always joked around and said that he was feeling great, not better. I'm an anxious girl and I worry too much, I know, but I can't shake away the feeling that he was talking about whatever is going on with him right now.
Or maybe I'm just too angst.

Not the Sun but that's the summary of the article (no pictures)

Quote
Backstreet Boys Nick, Kevin Clash At Kimmel Rehearsals!
12:58, Wednesday, 31 July 2013
It seems all is not well in the Backstreet Boys camp after Nick Carter and Kevin Richardson were snapped fighting at rehearsals.
In photos obtained by The Sun, the man band were photographed ahead of their performance on the Jimmy Kimmel show - with Nick and Kevin locking horns.

The pair were seen having a row when practicing new tune A World Like This, which resulted in Kevin - who only rejoined the group recently - storming off stage.

According to the tabloid, Carter then confronted fellow BSB bandmate Brian Littrell - who is Kevin's cousin - for laughing at their clash.

Despite clearly having some differences backstage, the band put on a united front to perform on the show, getting through the song without any trouble.

After their stint on stage, BSB took to Twitter to tell fans about their performance on Kimmel - posting snaps and saying it was "so fun" - but failed to mention their spat.

When I studied abroad in Scotland, I pretty much lived on Frosties and Ricicles!  They didn't have frosted Rice Krispies here in the States yet, so I thought that was pretty much the best thing ever!  They do now, and whenever I see them, I think of Ricicles. :)

Here we would leave out the beans, tomatoes, and mushrooms, unless they were in an omelette or something.  But I do not like tomatoes or mushrooms and am not a big fan of beans either, so I would pass on all of them! LOL

LOL That's how I got through gym as well!

LOL

My cooked breakfast would be bacon, sausage, mushrooms and toast :)

Great interview with Nick!

http://news.radio.com/2013/07/31/qa-backstreet-boys-nick-carter-opens-up-on-fandom-and-what-historic-dance-move-hell-never-stop-doing/

I like when he talks about how the haters treat Lauren, but I think my favorite Q&A was this one:

What’s your favorite Backstreet Boys lyric?

On the new album there’s a song called “Make Believe.” I love fantasy. I love sci-fi. I love space. I was able to really capture that with the song “Make Believe.” I remember I came up with the title “Make Believe.” Most people want to leave this world and go somewhere else for a little while, whether it’s a video game or a song. One of the lyrics is, “If we can only make believe, you and me together. We set our course to live or die across the universe. I’d be by your side.” I feel like you could just jump into a spaceship and take off.

"I think I'll put my spacesuit on... so I can jump into my rocket!"  LMAO He is so cute!!!  I know a lot of us love the lyrics to Make Believe, though, so I love that he talked about it!

They co-wrote like 2/3 of the album... with the bonus tracks, I think there are only 4 songs not written by any of them.  Nick and Howie in particular had a hand in writing a lot of them!  I'm so proud of them; this is the album we've been waiting years for!

Oh god, they co-wrote Hot Hot Hot?  Well, they also co-wrote She's a Dream, so... yeah.  Let's hope they wrote the verses and not the chorus.  We can blame that on the co-writer LOL.  I'm listening to that song right now, and every time it comes on, I think the same thing Julilly said in her review - it is a perfectly fine song until it gets to "Cuz you're... so... hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot HOT!"  Such a songwriting fail!  With a completely different chorus, it could have had so much potential.

You know what's kinda hilarious? We talk about She's A Dream and Hot Hot Hot (hothothothotho thot) more than any other songs... because we find them so ridiculous. For this reason, these songs are required. It's like a blooper reel for their recording sessions.

That's true!  It's just like us mocking Nick's movies... sure, they're bad, and his acting is terrible, but we're still glad he did them, if only for the eye candy and entertainment factor!  One or two bad BSB songs on an album full of good ones just give us something to talk about and make us appreciate the good ones even more!

Though I will say, I think the bad songs have gotten even bad-der over the years LOL.  I think the fandom's first "WTF?" song was "If You Want It To Be Good Girl (Get Yourself a Bad Boy)," but honestly, besides being ridiculous, that song is really not that bad to listen to - it's a guilty pleasure!  I've always kind of liked it! LOL  Whereas Shorty and Hot Hot Hot... no.  Just... no.

It so funny to me when Brian curses!  For a minute my head about exploded because I thought he dropped the F bomb, but then I went back and read his lips, and it was just "shit."  Still... funny, coming from him!!

Funny and.... kind of hot.

I guess it was still pretty fresh back then.  Maybe, now that he's written his book and will be promoting that soon, he's ready to talk about it in interviews.  You're right; it's the first time he's talked about any of this with the guys around.

I didn't have Backstreet's Back until after I had Millennium either, but that is actually one of my favorite albums!  The only skip song I have on it is Hey Mr. DJ.  Otherwise, it's one I can easily listen to all the way through, especially for gems like Like a Child and the AIHTG Conversation Mix (LOL).  If it just had WGIGO, QPG, and Get Down on it instead of Hey Mr. DJ, it would be the perfect album.

I am always confused about the first album and all the different releases. I kind of just lump them into one big album since I have no idea what is on what. I don't own either of them and never plan to. LOL I get my fix of the older songs by owning my greatest hits CD.

I actually owned the red album when it came out cause one of my cousins sent it to me. (Her dad was stationed overseas at the time). And for some reason despite some of the songs I fell in love their music anyway. I Wanna Be With You is my jam.

So, Leighanne, in replying a fan, had said that Brian is going through some things, though she didn't go in details. It's obvious that there is something wrong with Brian and his voice, in a way I'm glad she admitted instead than making it like nothing is wrong. Still, I'm worried.

I have a feeling it's just finally starting to hit Brian how hard these songs are to sing. On that sound check video of Quit Playing Games me that Julie posted from St. Louis, he tried to get Nick to sing his verse but it looked like Nick didn't want to or it caught him off guard, but that kind of broke my heart to see.

You know it's one thing to have trouble on a song here or there but to struggle through an entire concert night after night and in the process really bring the quality of the songs down has to do something to you mentally. It's clear AJ was having a lot of difficulty trying to harmonize with Brian during 10,000 Promises and the rest of the acoustic set (Where it's really something that can't be hidden) and you can tell the guys are trying to work through that together and it seems like they are encouraging him, which is great but yeah.

There are points he sounds great! his higher register and even some of the lower stuff so whatever he's doing to help himself it's working but songs where he has a lot of solos he probably panics about. I know I would. I can't even imagine how awkward I'll Never Break Your Heart must be and sound. If' they are doing that one, which maybe they won't.

Anyway, I bet it has to do with that but of course Leighanne should have realized by saying something like that she would have sparked all these questions so now hopefully she'll stop being vague and let people know what she meant. When speaking about BSB you can't be vague! Did she not read the fan rulebook? LOL

I've the feeling that we are going to find out sooner what's wrong with Brian. His "It's a work in progress", now Leighanne's tweets... In a way, I'm glad she didn't pretend that nothing is wrong and admitted that he's having problems. Fact is that she should know how much fans would worry about Brian's health, given his history. LOL

A thing that I've noticed is that how loud fans are screaming whenever Brian is singing, especially his high notes. Maybe he's realizing that we will support and love him no matter what and admitting whatever he is going through won't make us thinking less of him.

I think Leighanne's tweet had to be about his voice.  I don't know what else he would be struggling with.  He seemed totally fine and normal at both soundchecks and shows I went to - goofing off, being silly, smiling and waving at the fans, etc.  He didn't miss a step with his dancing (and they did a LOT of dancing, singing live the whole time!).  I don't think there's anything wrong with him physically, other than with his voice.  And although I could still hear the hoarseness, he really sounded a lot better live than he has on TV the last few years.  As Mare said, his high parts were awesome.  Most of the low parts were fine.  It's just in the middle of his register - which is unfortunately where most of his solos seem to be - where he struggles.

They did sing "I'll Never Break Your Heart," Mare, and it didn't sound bad, but did he sound as good as he used to singing that song?  No.  I think that's what breaks my heart (no pun intended) the most about this, is remembering how good it used to be.  Judging from Leighanne's tweet, it seems like he is plenty aware of that, too, even though no one's openly addressed it.  I hope they do when they feel the time is right, but I love and support him no matter what.  He could stop singing altogether and just stand on the edge of the stage and goof around and wave at fans, and I would still go to see him.  I love his voice, but I love him for so much more than that; it's not the only thing that defines him.

Exactly. The most painful thing about all of this situation is knowing and remembering how good Brian's voice used to be and seeing him struggling to still doing those notes even though he's well aware that he can't do them anymore.

Mare, here's a video of I'll Never Break Your Heart from Chicago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kY980UwB578

Here's a shorter one from St. Louis where you can hear Brian better:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpfYKeoC4ZE

Like I said... you can tell that his voice is not the same quality it used to be, but it really doesn't sound BAD.  He actually sounded pretty good on this one, for the most part!

Thanks for sharing those! One thing I'm finding interesting is AJ in relation to Brian because in that first video, AJ is way off, pitch-wise and it seems like he is the one struggling the most when it comes to singing with Brian. I wonder if they changed the key to any of those songs and now it's AJ that's having a hard time with it? Since it does tend to be AJ and Brian paired musically together.

AJ really has a hard time with the beginning of Show Em' as well. lol my causal observation as I watch all these concert videos. In fact it seems like they all kind of struggle with the key of that one! It reminds me of Shape of MY Heart.

Really the only songs of all the vids you posted that I winced when Brian sang, all came form the acoustic set. Quit Playing Games and 10,000 promises in particular. Everything else, he's doing okay with but I think the band and everyone singing along does help mask some of his issues with them. I really do hope the guys will take some of his parts though, so this way he can take a break from show to show and not destroy or further injure anything that needs fixing even though I still stand by my theory of it being a hearing and breath control issue.

Post by: RokofAges75 on August 05, 2013, 03:16:53 PM
AJ was off at the beginning of my video of We've Got It Goin' On, too, whereas Brian is usually on pitch, just hoarse or shaky or weak.  I'm sure it happens to all of them sometimes, but overall, they sound fantastic!  Show 'Em starts really low, and I wonder if that's why they seem to have a tough time at the beginning.  Shape of My Heart is the same way.

I do think the atmosphere of a live show, with the screaming and the loud music and the other guys' voices blending in does help mask some of the issues, and that's why it stands out more on TV.  At least they haven't resorted to a backing track and making him lip sync; I'd rather him sing live and not sound his best than fake it, unless he had to do that to preserve his voice.  I thought the same thing; I hope he's not hurting it more by trying to force it.  It sounds painful sometimes.  I can't imagine he wouldn't have gotten it checked out by now, though, so hopefully he knows what he's doing.
Title: Re: Documentary, star and anything else lol

I don't think they'd ever do the lip syncing thing. At least I hope not because I think we'd all rather hear a shaky Brian then a Milli Vannilied one! LOL

I don't know about angry Brian, probably more like disappointed Brian. I doubt he ever gets those vibes from Howie so it made sense he looked towards Brian for that answer.

It struck me not only because it was Brian but because I believed he was talking about the group in general,so I was expecting a "I know I have to face them" instead than "him".
But, yes, that was my feeling too. He really doesn't want to face a disapponted Brian which speaks a lot about what has gone through between them. And I do hope that it's one of the reason that will keep him from messing up again. Aj has Kevin, Nick has Brian. What is with those Kentucky boys? lol

The Larry King interview was pretty good. Most of the stuff they talked about we already knew. He asked Kevin what was it like for him to be 21 and in a band with a 12 and 14 year old but he didn't really get to fully answer that before Larry moved on to something else, ala Larry cut off his guests style. That's a question I have always wanted Kevin to answer lol

Brian defined boy band for him and was making it sound like such a horrible thing (and it is lol) but he never clarified and said but that's not us! LOL Luckily Kevin jumped in and explained they found the term offensive because they all sang etc...

I'm looking forward to watching that when I have more time!

What did you guys think of America's Got Talent?  I was impressed by Brian!  I really thought it was going to be bad due to the fact that he has a cold on top of whatever else is going on with his voice, but he sounded better than he has on any TV performance in the last two years!  That said, I was kind of relieved they started with Nick's verse of IWITW so he didn't ruin it by butchering the beginning.  In a World Like This was wonderful, and that was enough!

He and Nick need to lay off the hair dye, though.  I know people like Nick as "the blonde" and whatnot, but I like his darker natural color a lot better!  At least AJ trimmed down his beard so he doesn't look like he belongs on Duck Dynasty anymore!

I have to wait until the Larry King's interview ends up on youtube because its site can only be viewed if you're in America.

I just saw the AGT and I'm shocked by Brian. Really.  :notworthy: Whatever he is doing for his voice, it's really paying off. And I'm so proud. Plus he was hot, can we aks them to only wear black from now on?  :D

I enjoyed their performance on there. I didn't like the actual song melding. I didn't feel like they blended well together.

Brian has been sounding really good recently I know this sounds terrible but maybe we're almost at the point where we don't have to be so impressed when Brian happens to sound good anymore. It's kind of sad that when he stays on pitch and able to hit his notes we're all like YAY!!! LOL

Maybe he's just finally adjusting to whatever it is that's wrong and it'll go back to not being as noticeable, like before.  You can tell he's got more confidence which I'm sure also helps!

They posted on their FB that they are taking over BSC or something. What is that supposed to be? Or was that a typo and they really meant CBS? LOL

I'm so ready to get to the point when I don't have to worry about perfomances. Those last years had been hell, the hard work of a fan. LOL
But yes, you can see that he's got a lot more confidence than before, which is a huge relief.

BSC? lol Who is in charge of their Facebook? LOL I think it's a typo.

I just checked their FB page again but this time I didn't see the post at all. Maybe they took it down or it was just my imagination. I haven't heard that they were doing anything on CBS? LOL how odd!

I know what you mean.  Sad, but true LOL.  I have lowered my expectations to the point that I expect him to be shaky, especially on TV, so it's always a nice surprise when he's not.   He sounded like old Brian last night, though!

I also agree that the songs didn't blend very well, but I was glad they sang a bonus song!  In a World Like This is short.

So, this is the first time Brian actually said something, though it's a little bit ambiguos:

Hmm. I don't know how much, if anything, that says. He could just be saying thank you to the overall sentiment of the message. It's easy to take whatever we want out of these things, but whether that was truly the intention is questionable.

In fact it's very ambiguos. Though it's strange that he replies to that particular tweet, especially since it's from a fan he doesn't follow (he usually replies to them) so the fact that he chose that particular one, with a clear referring to his voice... Maybe it's nothing.

Here is a chat and performances they did in Tampa. I thought the chat segment was so much fun. They just all seemed like they were in great moods and really playful with each other.

Ugh, I'm with Nick though! I hate that our birthstone is Garnet! LOL I feel like we got the wrong end of the stick!

I loved the story about the rock in the snowball and if AJ had his beard back then it would have gotten caught in the beard. I almost spit my water out when he said that! LOL

Of course I also loved the fact that Howie mentioned how he and Nick went on vacation together and how he and Kevin do family vacations together too (aww moment). Now all I need is Nick to tag along since he is Kevin's adopted son and there is another fanfic dream come true! The three of them on vacation together, family trip. Love that! LOL

I finally got around to watching the Larry King interview.  That was a good interview, but I do wish he would have let the guys finish answering before he started asking his next question.  That is my biggest pet peeve about interviewers!  I thought it was cute how he kept asking Brian questions directly; I figured he probably knows Brian best of all the guys because Brian has been on his show a couple of times before.

Me too!!  I'm April, which is diamond, which I always thought was boring because it's just white.  I chose an amethyst for my high school class ring.

Side note, I'm loving all the Nick, Kevin and Howie together all the time pics. At the football game and the after parties. I love my little trio!

Very well written, Emily. I'm sorry you've been so affected by this disease. This is about the only disease that my family hasn't been affected by so the only thing I really know about it is the info I used to get from watching the telethon.

Thanks, Mare!  I just got a little choked thinking about it last night, and this was my catharsis, I guess.  I did tweet it at them, but I doubt they'll ever see it.  Still, it's gotten 179 views in the past 7 hours, so that's good in itself.

That was a great blog, Emily.  Sad, but as Mare said, very well-written and touching.  I had a student in my very first class with Duchenne MD, and it was very hard to watch his motor skills decline just in the year that I had him.  He started out the school year walking, and by the end of the year, he has in a wheelchair.  It's a horrible disease. :(  This is definitely a cause worth supporting, so I'm glad the Boys are involved in it this year!
