Title: The AC confessional
Post by: mare on July 13, 2013, 05:11:33 PM
I posed this as a question in the question thread but also thought it would prove to be a fun stand on its own topic as well.

So, here is where you can post your deepest, darkest secrets about anything relating to AC. Fanfic writing, reading, any fandom, genre etc...

Come in whenever you think of one and share!

Here are some of mine:

~ I put a lot more importance on reviews then I say but not mine, other peoples! Before I decide to read something I'm on the fence about I almost always check out the reviews to see what they say. If all I see is 'good job!' or 'update!' by names I am otherwise not familiar with, I tend to skip the story. If the author hasn't responded to reviews, I'll skip the story no matter how highly recommended it comes. If I see a lot of familiar names reviewing a story with longer more detailed reviews, it tells me that maybe I might like it too since those people have the same taste I do and had formed opinions about what they were reading enough to leave a detailed review.

~ When a chapter is really long, I tend to lose interest sometimes, so I usually skim and look for dialogue to help me get through. Reading that, lets me know the important things that have happened. lol

~ No matter who you use on your banners, I picture your characters the way I see them and it's never as the actor or actresses you pick lol

~ If I don't like how a story is moving along, I create my own version in my head.

~ If I can't visualize the story I'm reading by the third chapter, I stop reading. I have to see it play in my head as a movie for me to stay interested.

~ I lost respect for Backstreet when they teamed up with New Kids to the point where I was ready to hand back my 'fan' card. Thank God for Kevin's return. He changed all that but I'm afraid of it happening again!

I'll bite LOL.

I never read AJ, Howie, or Brian centered stories. I made an exception recently for Mare because To Protect Serve sounded interesting, although Kevin is the main character. I am slowly coming out of the box when it comes to the boys...but for the longest time, I only read Nick or group fics.

At first I was hesitant about Kevin coming back to BSB, but after seeing them interacting with each other in interviews and stuff, I accepted him lol

I went almost two years before deciding Nick was my favorite boy. I didn't get attracted to him until the All I Have To Give video.

I was scared to death posting my first fic.on AC....Incomple te. My first review came from a friend of mine in Australia, who was inspired to write her own stories.

My Nick and Amanda series was originally a BSB/NSYNC crossover. Amanda's name wa originally Alexis, her and Nick were not supposed to end up together. There were a lot of extra characters that ended up being taken out and many other changes, to make the guys more like themselves, and Kevin was added to the mix as a wedding planner.

Figured You Out was originally written over ten years ago.....when I decided to post it at AC, I made the girl a fan, made the story a bit darker.

In fact, my father was the one who came up with the ending, making it so that there  could not be a sequel. The McDonald's bribe was an idea from a co worker....ever yone was supportive.

I really never read anything but Nick or group centered fics either, unless it's for judging or challenge purposes.

If it makes you feel better Tracy, Protect and Serve is really a group fic, you'll see as you go along, it's pretty even with the featuring. :) lol

Another confession

The only way I was able to make it through Mind Games was switching Brian and Nick's characters. LOL

My confessions:

- When I start reading a fanfic, I check randomly some chapters to see if there will be some Brian's scenes, especially hurt/hospital scenes. If not, I won't probably read it.  ;D

- Whenever I'm reading a fanfic of another fandom, I still picture Brian (and Nick if it's slash) as the main character.

- I used to write reactional fanfic after reading a fanfic, especially if I believed that the authout hadn't give much attention to something that I would have loved to read. Thisused to happen a lot with stories written in first person. lol

- I have a word document with a list of illness, disease, accidents or injury to use in stories. After seeing last Brian's picture, I might have added sleep-deprivation and insomnia. LOL

-I still don't get, and I doubt that I ever will, all the love for Nick. And not only fanfic related. lol

I found these very interesting!  So you would write stories based on other stories you read to fill in the gaps with what the author left out that you wanted to read?  I've never thought of doing that, but I wonder how many other people do.

I love your list of afflictions! LOL  And I know, Brian did look really tired in that pic he tweeted!

Yes. lol Especially if the story was told in first person, I used to think about how it would have turned out from the other's pov. One that I've actually started writing (and that I still have it and not erased) was a reaction fiction after reading a terrible story where the MarySue of the story broke up with Brian and the guys, instead to comfort him, went and comfort the girl.  I was like "wtf?" so I started this story told from Brian's pov and, if I remember correctly, he ended up in hospital because of an appendicitis.  :D :D

He did looked tired not only in that but also in the pictures Leighanne tweeted on the 4th of July. Add that he had admitted in London not to being able to sleep, my mind has gone mad and in full angst mode.

This is similar to one I had thought of posting.  I do get the Nick love, but I was way late to that party! LOL  Nick was my LEAST favorite when I first became a fan, and then slowly, he started to grow on me, but it wasn't until the Now or Never era in 2002 that I really got the Nick appeal.  I think fanfic had something to do with that, too, not just real life.  Nick looked really good in 2002, better than he ever had before (to me, anyway), and I loved Now or Never, but I also read some really good Nick fanfics around that same time that made me fall in love with the fictional version of him too LOL.  Swollen Issues was one of them, I know.   Then I kept reading Nick fics, and that was what helped me get through "The Dark Ages" (as  I saw them called in Emily's story the other day), 2003-2004... when he went through his ghetto fab phase and then started dating Paris Hilton.  I'm not sure my Nick love would have survived that otherwise LOL.

Omg, I hate when writers have the guys comfort or side with Mary Sue over the other guy!  That would definitely go on my pet peeve list.  In some cases it may be justified, but I hate when they all act like Mary Sue is the most amazing person in the world.

LOL That's so funny... the places our minds go when we're thinking of how best to torture the boys!  My favorite kind of photo shoots are the ones where they're looking all serious and angsty, instead of smiling.  I always think, "Hm, I could use that in a banner someday..."

I'm the opposite. I think I'm one of the few people in the world who doesn't think that Nick is hot.  :D And the reason why I'm not into him has a lot to do with all the praises he gets from his pyscho fans, like he's a God on Earth. lol And my dislike has grown bigger after finding out the BSB fanfic and discovered that half of the stories were about Nick.  :D :D The only way I can read and write about him is when he is with Brian. As I said to a friend: "I don't love the real Nick, I love the Nick from my stories." I'm weird, I know.   :D

Yeah, I call Nick "The Chosen One" LOL.  I think that is partly why I disliked him in the early days, because everyone else loved him and I didn't want to be a follower.  But I really didn't find him very attractive with the floppy yellow penis haircut, and he was so awkward in interviews back then that I just made fun of him more than anything.  I was always a Brian girl, from Day 1.  I am still a Brian girl, but Nick's become a close second.  I really love all five of them, though; I don't really play favorites anymore.

That's the first point on my pet peeve list. That's the reason why I stay away from stories told by a female characters. I want to read about the guys not about how they think the Mary Sue is amazing.

LOL Yes, yes we do.  We need some sort of official title.  Like my avatar, but for all of us who love to hurt and torture and maim our favorite Backstreet Boys.

Angstoholics Anonymous?
The Sad Panda Society?
Drama Queens?  (or Medical Drama Queens?)

Any ideas?

I think Nick is the most popular because he is the youngest and closest in age to most of the fans so they felt like they had the best chance with him out of all of them. There's always one in every group, for BSB it's Nick. And you're right, the overly zealous fans of his ruin it for everyone else but I think it's like that for all the boys too! It's always the crazies I take issue with over the actual boy most of the time! Just took me awhile to figure that out! LOL

~ When I first became a fan, I always felt pressured to pick a favorite since everyone always asked. I started saying Nick because everyone else loved him. I knew nothing about them at the time but I never felt totally attracted to any of the boys. I actually fell in love with their music first and then their personalities. It wasn't until I did get to know them that I figured out that Kevin was my favorite. I do think three of them are very nice to look at but I have never been drawn to them for their looks.

~ I could care less about any of their solo careers. I never bought any of their solo albums and still to this day have not listened to a single track on any of their solo CDs (unless forced to at a concert) besides Nick.

~ If BSB were not famous and all went to my high school, I am SURE Howie would have been in my click of friends.

~ I roll my eyes whenever the boys try to sell us something outrageously high price-wise (which is just about everything these days!) and fans no matter what still buy them out of blind love lol

Kevin, Nick... who's the third you find nice to look at, Mare?

They have been more ridiculous than ever with the merchandise and various packages this year!
Title: Re: The AC confessional

Forgot this one!

~ Even though I have done my fair share of torturing the boys, I don't like to read them being tortured physically. I tend to skip those parts of a story or stay away entirely. Never read a single story of the death or the revenge stories because of that.

Howie! :)

Tell me about it $50 for that CD because of a poster and something handwritten? I get why, because they are funding most of this themselves but their prices overall are ridiculous and I know it's in part because they seethe fans are willing to pay! LOL

~Usually it takes many recommendation s from people I know for me to touch a romance. That or a very unique summary. Otherwise I skip right over them because I always tune out. It's probably a little snobbish but it's true. Hell, the reason I read "Not Your Average Cinderella Story" is because Julie, Sarah, etc. ALL recommended it. Like I am openminded but not enough to click without some majorly insane prompting. (I didn't even click on Mare's!)

~I don't think I could ever write a Howie centered story beyond oneshots. Same with Kevin. I'm not even sure with AJ though I get ideas for him the way I do him and Brian. I don't know why, well no I do for Howie. Kevin I love to write in fics but apparently he can't be the center unless it involves his brotherly bond with Nick.

~I don't think I could ever write a BSB fanfic (beyond a oneshot) without Nick being a central part of it. Even the Brian fic I had needed to involve Nick somehow. I couldn't help it.

~My original favorite wasn't Nick. It was Brian because it was based purely on voice. Nick came into play early on but the two tied only when personalities and looks became a factor. Ironic since I honestly believe Nick's the best singer currently in the group.

~I feel like twitter and the voice problems is mainly why I have a hard time writing Brian now.

~I've done three blatant self inserts during my fanfic career, one of which is a collab and is the earliest of my fics that's not deleted from the net.

~While I'm a bit into like real life slash (ie: when my cousin and his husband take me to a gay bar, two gorgeous guys making out is hot) I can't get into it in fanfic because it's too big a stretch and too OOC for me.

I agree, Nick's sounding better than ever these days!  Really, though, with the exception of one (we don't need to name names), they're all sounding amazing!  I'm impressed with how well AJ's voice has held up over the years, considering how long he's been smoking.  Howie is always right on when they sing live.  And Kevin's voice is like a breath of fresh air now that he's back!  I'm not a huge fan of Permanent Stain overall, but his solo gives me goosebumps, it's so gorgeous!

I didn't really look at Nick until about 2005, Kevin was my favourite when it came to looks.  Now I have to say that Nick is my favourite in looks and voice (although I also love AJ's voice).

When I first joined here, I read just about everything on the most recent page, even if I didn't like it much.

Brian is my least favourite boy and has been since before the voice trouble.  I don't know why, but I find him a bit annoying at times.

I'm always saying I don't like slash, but then I read Julie's Nick/Howie one and loved it!

I've self-inserted on a few stories, both BSB and Take That.

I don't read much these days since I can't read in work anymore :(

-Even during Nick's dark period, he was still my favourite high above the other boys. He will always be my favourite. I say that pretty confidently, because I don't think he can do much worse than dating Paris Hilton.

-I hated This Is Us so much when it came out that my fandom pretty much died during that period. I went to see them in concert when they came to my city, and I was lucky enough to get front row seats. But on the way to the concert I mentioned to my friend "It'll be nice to sit front row for what used to be my favourite band." I felt better about them after that concert because obvs BSB are fantastic performers, but NKOTBSB is what really got me back into the fandom.

-I used to exclusively write self-insert fic. I even wrote it in 2007 when I was 21 and it wasn't until I saw how frowned upon it was on here that I started creating my own original characters. I just thought that self-insert was what BSB fanfic was! LOL

-When I was 11-13 I legitimately thought I was going to marry Nick. There was no doubt in my mind.

I didn't really like a lot of the songs on This Is Us, it's my least played BSB cd.

Steph, I was still writing self-inserts in my 30s LOL! My story Ten Things (which I wrote about three years ago) had the main character called Steph, which is weird really because AJ is the opposite of the kind of man I'd go for, and I'm nothing like the character I wrote (from what I remember writing).

Here are some of my writing ones!

~ I like to name my chapters after other people's stories, my older stories and inside jokes just for fun to see if anyone notices. I do that within the actual chapters as well. lol

~ I always make sure I incorporate the name of the story into the story at some point, more than once if I can.

~ While writing "Fly Fishing" for some reason whenever I pictured Nick and Kevin I always saw them in cartoon form! lol that's a weird one.

~ I stole the name Chub Chub from the "Simpsons"

~I tend to name my original characters after people I know so this way I will remember their names! It doesn't always work though.

~ I think Leighanne is a richer, less white trash version of Jane Carter and have a very hard time writing her in any other way!

~ Even though I can't relate to AJ much in real life, I have the most fun writing him.

~ After my first few stories, I would get emails constantly asking me if I was Nick or knew him. lol That still cracks me up.

~ One of my most well received fics that appears to be well thought out was actually written by the seat of my pants improv style and I sometimes came up with the next move just based on what people were guessing. If they guessed one way, I went the other direction purposely and I will NOT say which one it was! LOL

~ Still to this day when I see a new review for a story, I get all tingly inside.

I don't think I listened to This Is Us all the way through except the first time I got it. Same with Unbreakable but at least that one, there are a bunch of songs I do like a lot.

I'm glad you learned that BSB is not all about self inserts, Steph! LOL It kind of scares me that there might be people out there that still think that!

Which leads me to yet another one:

~ Sometimes I am embarrassed by some of the stories I see posted for fear that everyone will think all BSB fanfic is just like those stories!

~ I feel the same way about some of the crazy fans! lol
Title: Re: The AC confessional

I had a tough time thinking of something to say here but ... here goes!

~ I'm terrible at keeping up with things. I NEVER read books, I rarely ever read fanfic, keep up with the forum, watch TV.... anything that requires me to remember that I need to go back to it pretty much gets ignored. It's particularly bad with writing though. I can sit down and write and be totally happy with what I wrote, walk away and forget what the plot even was and basically end up with a bunch of chapters that go nowhere.

~ I sometimes wish I wasn't a BSB fan because I'm embarrassed by the way a large chunk of the fandom acts. (Not you guys, of course)

~ The only person who is not a close friend or someone I met through AC that I have told about this site and the role I play in it is Nick. That's weird.

~ I am the anti-Kevin. I dislike Kevin so much I don't even look at him in photos because I can't stand his face. I was overjoyed when he quit and I'm actually disappointed that he will be in my group pic on the cruise.

~ I've never written a self-insert.

~ The very first fanfic I wrote was actually recorded onto a Fisher Price tape recorder (you know the one) and was a "spooky" NKOTB Halloween tale that I created for my sister and her friend.

~ I feel the same way about some of the crazy fans! lol

Get outta my head! lol

Agree. LOL

- I don't hate "This Is Us". It's the album where there is one of my favorite songs ever, "Shattered".

- I don't hate Leighanne. Yes, this is really a confession. lol And I have a really hard time writing her as the bad one, though she has to be givin that she's an obstacle between Brian and Nick.

- I've wrote a story where Brian was a hooker.

LOL That is a big one, Steph!

My sister and I got into a HUGE argument because of a House of Carters episode once. I think it was the creepy one where Nick disappears and Bob shows up. I don't even remember why we started fighting but it was pretty bad! LOL

My roommate and I used to re-watch it every year for the LOLZ. Between that and The Pendant, I never need another source of comedy. Except maybe Nick's book.

We haven't watched it since Leslie died though, because it was weird.

I liked House of Carters, too, even though I thought it was a bad idea.  It was kind of a train wreck, but it was entertaining, and I was fun to watch Nick interact with his siblings on TV.  Good for fanfic, too - it gave me a better idea of how to write them in the little that I do include them in my fanfics.

I haven't watched any of it since Leslie died either, though... I agree that it would be weird now. :(

It'd be fun to get together and have a Nick movie marathon LOL - The Pendant, Fast Glass, and The Hollow!  Yeah, dat's right, take it back to Mama!  Dolla dolla bills, yo!

There would need to be alcohol involved.  Plenty of alcohol.

Oh, speaking of The Hollow, here's a confession:

Before that movie was released to DVD, I downloaded it online - in Spanish - because I was so desperate to see it.  I had to download BitTorrent or something like that and figure out torrents, which I'd never even heard of, and it took like 24 hours to download it.  But I watched it!  The whole thing!  In Spanish!  LMAO
Honestly, it was probably better that way because I could just look at Nick (in his football pants) and not have to hear his horrible, ghetto dialogue.

In a related confession, I not only own The Hollow DVD, but I also have Leighanne's movies Olive Juice and Megalodon, which are even worse. *hangs head*  At least I didn't purchase her autographed Olive Juice soundtrack off of Wylee this past year, though.

Kill Speed, I guess it's actually called - how did I remember the old title and not the real title?  Fail.

Anyway, watch this clip, and you'll have seen all you need to see of Kill Speed, including his epic death scene:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8IinbNcz0Y (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8IinbNcz0Y)

At least he looks pretty in that one.  Prettier than chubby, long-haired Nick in The Hollow.  (Another confession:  I hate when Nick grows his hair out.)

She had them on Wylee last year, around Christmas I think.  Autographed by both her and Brian.  I think there was at least one BSB song on it... The Perfect Fan, maybe?  I don't think Leighanne had any songs on it, though, which is good LOL.

I did download their little Littrell Family Christmas songs for the past two years, though LOL.

~ The very first fanfic I wrote was actually recorded onto a Fisher Price tape recorder (you know the one) and was a "spooky" NKOTB Halloween tale that I created for my sister and her friend.

That's really cute. :)   I had a Talk Girl (the pink version of the little tape recorder Macaulay Culkin uses in Home Alone 2), and my friends and I used to record fake news/radio broadcasts on it.  Best toy ever!

Confession: I started watching that Kill Speed clip, and turned it off after 20 seconds.  I'll take real-life Nick, thanks. lol.

Other confessions:
-I'm a total self-inserter.  Even when I'm not doing it intentionally, I end up imagining myself as one of the female characters I'm writing/reading about just so I can sort of "be there."  Then, Mare killed off Lisa (who was sleeping with Kevin, and also a bad guy), and my little bubble totally burst.

-I'm a review whore.  I actually didn't realize you could set up e-mail notifications until last week, so I was sometimes checking the site multiple times a day to see if I had any new reviews.

-I'm a little giddy that I have some fanfic friends who actually respect my writing.  Can I be in the clique now?

-I like story banners.  I'm jealous that so many of you can actually make professional looking ones.  Sorry, Mare!

The Hollow is my favorite of the three by far, not that that's saying much.  With a bigger budget, better special effects, better writing, and better acting, it could have been a good movie LOL.  I love the Headless Horseman.  I was just disappointed Nick didn't get decapitated.  Honestly, when I found out the movie was about the Headless Horseman and that Nick played a bad guy, I thought he was a goner for sure!  I was looking forward to it! LOL  I am glad he was in the whole movie, though, unlike the kid from Jurassic Park who is a better actor but dies in the first scene LOL.

I run that account on twitter for Nick's butt. It started entirely out of boredom and as a total joke but it was fun as hell. Another confession I thought of...

One place I look when I'm researching for my medical dramas is blogs, because a blog written by someone who's gone through the same thing your character is going through can help you get both the physical stuff (all the gory little details the medical websites don't tell you and how various procedures and side effects actually feel) and the emotional stuff (what goes through your head when you're dealing with something like this).  I usually will just stumble onto an entry of some random blog in my googling that helps answer whatever question I had, but once in awhile I will get sucked in and start reading and following the whole blog.

I did this as I was writing Curtain Call, found this guy's blog who had a similar kind of cancer to what I gave Nick.  His blog was actually really funny, the way he wrote about things, so I ended up reading all of it and then checking back on it from time to time (it wasn't updated very often).  I stopped going to it after a certain point in Curtain Call, but something made me think of it sometime last year, and I went to check on it and saw that the guy had died. :(  It was sad.  And then I was like, is it weird that I feel sad for this stranger whose blog I've been trolling?  But I guess while it may be weird that I was trolling it in the first place, it's not weird to feel sad for someone who's died, whether you knew them or not.

Jean (my friend who died a few years ago) used to keep a blog and hundreds of people used to visit all the time, even people she didn't know because she had a very rare form of cancer and was great with words and making things funny instead of scary!

related to that one!

Whenever using anything psychological for my stories which is basically all of them! I would consult with my sister and ask her hypothetical questions like, what might happen if you are in a traumatic situation where you're asked to torture your best friend? How would your mind deal with something like that? LOL And her answers were basically the therapy sessions Brian had in It Stays. I even named the therapist after my sister!

Aww... a sense of humor is so important!  My friend Lisa was like that too; she had a blog, and you could see her great attitude throughout it, even when things were bad.  I don't know that she got that many visitors outside of people who actually knew her, though.

That's really nice that you can do that with your sister!  If I tried that with my sister, she would give me a weird look and be like, "What the fuck is wrong with you?  You are so gay!"  ("You are so gay!" is exactly what she said to me when she found out why I really wanted to go see This Is the End with her.  Okay then? I'm sure if my sister knew WHY I was asking I would get an eye roll and an "Are you kidding me, get a life!" But this was before she knew anything about my fanfic writing. LOL

I felt dangerously close to writing Howie raping Nick in that slash story I posted.  I had to revise it to make it less "rapey" LOL.  I was just like, OMG, Nick's really drunk and can't give his consent, and Howie's just going to take advantage and have his way with him?!  That is rape!  No!!

In your case, it's more "dubious consent" (the things you learn reading thousand stories. lol). It's not really rape since Nick didn't say no.

I never thought or wrote about Nick raping Brian. And I think I'll never cross that limit. I know it's kinda bad but the point of the stories isn't about the rape itself but how he managed to get back on his feet. In one, the rapist was this pyscho man who was in love with Brian and believed that they belonged to each other. So he raped him, stalked him, tried to kill the other guys. The best part was that he had already killed other boys who looked like Brian and he could heard their voices in the head. Until now, Zachary (that's his name) is still my favorite villain ever. Though it was fun writing him while he discussed with the invisible Brians. LOL

That's okay, I understand what you mean about the rape being a way to knock him down and then get him back on his feet.  Rape is not something I enjoy writing... the only "rape" scene I've written that comes to mind is one in my self-indulgent suspense from long ago in which Brian gets raped (or almost raped) by Lance Bass LOL.  And that was years before Lance came out - I called it early! LOL

Would you be surprised if I told you that I remember that scene? LOL

But yes, I don't enjoy writing (and I never write it in the details, aside for one and only time) those scene. I'm far more interested in the physchological aspects, especially because it's always set in a thriller or suspence scenario, and how him (and Nick also) deal with it.

LMAO Omg, really??  Wow.  I'm impressed!  I wrote that a LONG time ago, and I haven't looked at it in a long time either, but I remember it being really awkward LOL.  To be totally honest, I was so young and naive back then that I didn't really even get the logistics of how a man raping another man would work.  Luckily I didn't try to describe it in much detail LOL.  Yuck.  That's funny that you remember it!

LOL I'm the same way; that's how I remembered that plane crash one I posted in the other thread.  I just forget that there actually might be people who read those old stories of mine back in the day and are still around to talk about them.  I keep them up because I don't want to lose them, but I also don't really want anyone reading them and judging me as a writer by those, which is why I removed them from my main site and stuck them in "The Vault" on the archive site.

But someone emailed me the other day to ask if I could make my story Silent Desperation into an ebook, like I've done with some of my more recent finished novels on my site.  I did it for her because I was flattered that she wanted it, but I couldn't understand WHY.  And I will definitely not be adding that one to my site with the other ebooks I've made.  Maybe she read it back in the day and just wants to reread it so she can make fun of it, like me with the plane crash story LOL.

Yes, I'd be up for a night of watching his movies too, although I may be asleep when you are watching :(

I also have the Hollow on DVD... and I have The Pendant on DVD... actually, confession (lol), I have TWO copies of The Pendant on DVD. They're both autographed but I put one of them away for safe keeping and play the other one LOL

Yeah I hardly use the twitter anymore to   be honest cause I am so busy but it was mostly for fun. I was really bored and thought to myself hey Nick's crotch has a twitter but I like his ass....why not? I didn't expect anything out of the whole thing.

Another confession, I didn't see a BSB show until Black and Blue, and not again until This Is Us. I saw the boys mostly at radio.station feativals until then.

Brian took over Nicls spot as my favorite BSB for about almost two montha after NKOTBSB whem n I met the boys for the first time. Brian hugged me without me asking but last summer he dropped down to my third favorite at Mixtape, he seemed to be not as warm as last time, or maybe it was because a certain well known fan was there, he avoided her like the plague LOL.

What's really funny is I have spent the most time with Brian when it comes to meeting them. I went to one of his golf things in TN and spent a significant amount of time talking to him and then he was also at Howie' bowling thing and once again spent a fair share of time talking to him yet he's my least favorite BSB. Go figure!

Kevin was kind of jerkish both times I met him but yet he's my favorite! LOL

Randomly, I've spent the bulk of my BSB one-on-one time with AJ. He's kind of an amazing person and HOLY nice! I've interacted with Nick about the same amount of times but they were actually less memorable because he wasn't as personable and easy to talk to. That could be because I'm more anxious while speaking to him but he always seems to be very 'ok, let's get this done' while AJ was very chatty and seemed genuinely interested in our conversation.

Um... I want to meet a Backstreet Boy!  (or five!) :(  I am so cheap when it comes to these meet and greets and such.  Truth is that I actually have a couple of "connections," that might actually help the process along (the Kentucky girl thing has its perks...not that I've seen any of them), but I'd kind of rather keep fantasizing about the "chance meeting."  An old friend of mine acted in a web series with Brian's brother, Harold-- make out scene and everything, and the story goes that he's "going to see what he can do" about maybe helping us meet them at our concert in Cincinnati.  I'll believe it when I see it.

Oh, and Nick's red sweatpants have their own Twitter account.  I mean, I would know  ;)  (I promise it's not me-- I found it when I was looking for a picture for my story banner...Sorry Mare!  I think every time I mention a banner, I'll follow it with "Sorry Mare!" hehe)

AJ was very warm and easy to talk to as was Howie. He's a riot!

The only BSB I have never met and probably never will is Nick, because now it seems like the only way you can get near them is paying for those stupid VIPS which I refuse to do to talk to someone for five seconds and take a completely un-personal picture. I miss the days when they were really nobody and made themselves more accessible to fans. I mean these were still events we had to pay for (barely compared to now) but they were for charity for one and they lasted all day long where you really got quality time with them. I never once felt like I was being herded anywhere.

OMG that just takes me back to the sometimes I am embarrassed to be associated with some of the fans confession earlier! I mean I kind of grimaced when Nick felt the need to apologize in one of the radio interviews for some of the crazy fans behavior. I don't remember what had happened but they all had this look on their faces and I just face palmed!

My favorite moments come though when the super deluxe crazy fans rant about how crazy some fans are like they can't see how irrational their own behavior is but can pick it out when someone else does it! LOL

Aww, thanks.  I actually loved Now or Never too; we just never did much planning with it and wrote ourselves into a corner and weren't sure where to go with it.  If I knew or felt inspired to try to finish it myself, I would.  It had potential.

I hope you can meet the guys someday!  It's a lot easier now than it used to be.  You should start saving up for VIP now, since they probably won't make it over to Europe until after the new year, knowing Backstreet time.  All you'd have to do is set aside, say, 10 Euros a week... times four weeks in a month would be 40 Euros a month... times five months would be 200 Euros, which should be able to get you a silver, so you could meet them and get a picture.  It's a lot of money, but I think it's worth it, especially if you've never met them.  It's all about the experience.

Well, I'm kinda hoping that they come over Europe for March, maybe the end of March so that I could spend my birthday at their concert. lol
I've tried to set aside but then it always happens something and I have to use that money. First I have to say thank you to Mare and Julie for the nice compliments earlier. Really, I appreciate your kind words. :)

As for the Kevin thing... I guess I've just never really figured out the appeal. In the early days he was basically irrelevant to me, I paid zero attention to him except through being annoyed at every one of his spoken word intros lol (not his fault, I know). He really could have not been in the group from the get-go and it wouldn't have made a difference to me. When he finally announced he was leaving I really didn't care and I liked the foursome better without him.

There's just something about him that rubs me the wrong way. :/

According to Brian and Howie. If I heard right, he'll be singing two songs as an opening act. I'm hoping I heard wrong on that one and I'm hoping it's only for the first concert. That's a little ridiculous. He's 10!

I don't get it! I mean you see how messed up one of your own band mates is because of the way his family whored him out when he was a kid and you think, hey that seems like a great idea! Let's do that too?

Seriously if there was place to go below fifth right now... lol

Baylee's a really talented singer, actually, but I do think this isn't the right audience at all to introduce him as an artist, if that happens to actually be what he wants to do with his life.  He'll eventually resent them for that.
Title: Re: The AC confessional
Post by: mare on July 17, 2013, 06:39:47 PM
Lots of 10 year olds are good singers. He should not be opening for thousands of people just because his dad is in the band. Just my opinion and I agree, he's going to resent them especially if he ends up in therapy and/or rehab!

And now they'll be selling Wylee/Baylee shirts? It's like they're turning it into a family affair. I don't know, it annoys the crap out of me LOL

Those Mindless Behavior guys they had opening for them a few years ago were not much older than Baylee, and that was super awkward because they were doing pelvic thrusts while they sang LOL.  As long as Baylee doesn't do that, I don't have a problem with him performing.

I missed this chat, but here is my take on it based on what I've read here.  I'm assuming this is happening because BAYLEE wants to, not because Brian and Leighanne want him to.  I won't say this for Leighanne, but I don't think BRIAN would allow this unless Baylee really wanted to.  And if Baylee really does want to get into the business, this would be a great opportunity for him to get some experience.  If it's only two songs, it's not like he's performing a whole concert or even a whole set.  It's two songs.

You can easily compare this to Nick, who was performing at this age, and Aaron, who opened for BSB back in the day, but what separates Brian and Leighanne from Bob and Jane Carter is the fact that Brian and Leighanne aren't exploiting their kid for money and fame because they already HAVE money and fame.  I really think it's just for fun and not all that serious.  Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing him perform!  Much more than DJ Pauly D or Jesse McCartney, anyway LOL.

I think it's also okay to tell your ten year old son no from time to time, something I think Baylee doesn't here very often.

I just think that kid is going to have some major entitlement issues if he keeps getting whatever he wants. I do agree, I know they aren't exploiting him, but they are exploiting US!

You are right about those Mindless Behavior people though and I'm sure Baylee will be better than DJ Pauly lol

I'm hoping Brian will help keep Baylee grounded.  I don't know anything about how Leighanne was raised, but I know Brian didn't grow up entitled, and I hope that he remembers his roots in the way he's raising Baylee.  I can see how it would be harder to say no when you're in a position to give your child opportunities and things you didn't have yourself as a kid, but you're right, Mare, that does need to happen sometimes.  Kids need to learn not to expect everything to go their way; it's a life lesson.  I think this must have been a family decision, though - not all Leighanne, but not all Baylee either.  It's Brian's group, so it had to have been Brian's call in the end.
Title: Re: The AC confessional

I'm sure in the end it was something they all had to decide on, which is what disappoints me. But you know how it goes...he's not my kid lol They can do whatever they want. And I do hope that Brian has that in him to keep Baylee on the ground. If not, I know his parents do.
Title: Re: The AC confessional

I agree with Julie, it's hard to say No to your kids for the things you didn't have while growing up when you are capable to. I've experienced that first hand, I never have lots of toys growing up and  it's hard to say No to my children because I know how it feels when I want a toy but couldn't have it. But it has a downside, though. Because my children thought they can have whatever they want. It's a good thing it wasn't too late, and I was able to teach them that it's okay to have a new toy once or twice a month (the cheap ones! lol) but not every week or every other day. I also taught them how to save money. :)

As for Baylee, I think he wants to be in the business but with some influence from Leighanne. I am not sure about that and that is just my opinion. I know Brian would not agree on this if he thinks this is not good for Baylee. But I also remember that this is the father who agreed for Baylee to be homeschooled than for the kid to experience normal life in school with other children. But they are still his parents, and I believe they won't do something that could harm the kid. Each parents has different way of raising their kids.

Apologies if what I said doesn't make any sense. I'm typing as fast as I can because I'm in the office and I should be working. lol

Haha, don't get me started on the homeschooling.  Being a public school teacher, I'm biased against homeschooling, but in their situation, I do understand.  Leighanne and Baylee like to travel and go on tour with Brian, and they wouldn't be able to do that if Baylee were in regular school.  If I were the wife of a Backstreet Boy, I'd want to travel with him too!  At least they seem to be going about it the right way - I know Baylee plays sports, and I'm sure they belong to a church, so he's got lots of opportunities to interact with other kids, but at the same time, he's getting to see the world, which is a great educational experience.  He's not getting a "normal" childhood, but he is getting some really cool experiences that most normal children don't get.  As long as he's getting a well-rounded curriculum (including not just academics, but the social-emotional and character-building life lessons that you learn by being in school), he should be fine.  He is obviously well-loved, and like you said, Ritz, I really do believe Brian and Leighanne have his best interests at heart, so who are we to judge their parenting?

You didn't miss anything, that chat was so terrible. You just missed Howie joking that he is Brian's father.  :D

I agree with you. The main difference between Baylee and Nick is also that Baylee is pratically grown up on stage, being always there with Brian. To him, I think that perfoming isn't that different than playing basketball. So, as long as he's doing this because he wants to and because he loves (which there is no doubt seeing how much ham he is like his father) I won't be worried about it. Brian isn't pushing him because he wants money or fame, he wants because he wants to make him happy.

I saw the chat online later, and you're right - it was pretty terrible! LOL

I agree - Baylee is so Brian's Mini-Me, and because he's only ten, he probably wants to be just like his dad.  That may change as he gets older; he may decide he doesn't want to be a performer after all, and if that's the case, I don't think Brian and Leighanne would push him to, but if he wants to right now, why not let him?

So to kind of get us back on topic, here's a related confession.  Although my 14-year-old self may have cried when I found out Brian was getting married, I don't hate Leighanne.  I don't even dislike her.  I've always supported her as Brian's wife, and I've met her several times in real life, and she has always been nothing but sweet.  I even have a few Wylee products (ones that weren't completely overpriced), and I love them all.

I don't agree with everything Leighanne says or does, and I will admit, she makes herself an easy target for ridicule with the Wylee stuff and the matchy clothing and the "Husband" comments and all of that... but as long as Brian loves her, I will continue to support her, if for no other reason than because I respect him.  I don't like to see fans trashing the guys' wives/significant others.  Unless we're talking old girlfriends (*cough*Paris*cough*)... they're fair game!
Title: Re: The AC confessional
Post by: mare on July 18, 2013, 04:06:05 AM
I do think Brian and Leighanne love their son and want what's best for him but I do think we can say that about even the worst of parents. Like you said, Ritz when you give your kids everything they want it's what they expect every time. I do think it's great that he does get to travel all over the place with them and he gets to be with his dad and my feelings about home schooling are the same as yours, Julie. I do think they are doing it the right way though with getting him involved in sports etc.. I do think that's where the weird factor comes in for him. Every home schooled child I have ever met has that weird thing going on. Baylee seems no different.

To see your kid interested in performing and acting and letting him audition for local theater to try it out, or a home town show so he can have the spotlight on him is one thing, but saying okay let's have him open up in front of our HUGE, GIGANTIC audience because it'll make him happy, is another. And I'm sorry I think Leighanne DOES use Baylee. I mean she's making Wylee/Baylee products because she KNOWS people will say "Aww he's so cute, let me go buy a gazillion of these things!" Just like I'm sure she'll think of other ways to make money by exploiting her child. Doesn't mean she doesn't love him and think she's doing it in his best interest. And just because aren't as financially unstable as the Carters were, doesn't mean she doesn't anything. Howie and Brian even admitted in the chat that if they are nice to their fans, they'll do anything for them and keep them very financially comfortable. Basically saying, "They'll buy whatever shit we toss their way!"  which kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I mean, I always thought that but to actually hear them say it bothered me! LOL

And Cinzia, Nick also grew up performing even more so than Baylee the only difference is the level. Nick was performing at festivals in between pig races while Baylee at the age of 5 or 6 was going out to thousands of people and introducing his father's band.

Again, I know it's none of our business but just like in school when you see things going on with kids and their parents making not the best decisions, you discuss, which is why God invented the teacher's lounge! LOL

I don't mean this thread to turn into a parenting debate or anything, but obviously I have a very strong opinion about this and always have. Same thing about kid pageants. Exact same thing to me! If Baylee was a girl three words... Toddlers and Tiaras!

Agree. I don't care about what she says or does and, frankly, I only follow her for pictures of Brian. Though I admit that I liked her a little bit because, during the Christmas Littrell videochat, she read my tweet and tell Brian my question. But, aside that, I only care that she loves and supports Brian. And she already proved to care and be there for him through hardest time so...

I was talking more about the context and the situation: Nick had been pushed by his mother because she wanted him to be famous and rich so the whole perfoming thing wasn't really normality to him. To Baylee, instead, "perfoming" is the normality because that's what his dad does. That's why I think they are two different situations. Baylee is doing this because he just loves singing and wants to be like his dad not because his parents wants him to be famous so they would be famous too. And rich.

I get why Baylee wants to do it. But I don't think it's the right way to go about it at his age. He's ten, so you know he should be a kid. Go on stage in town or something. Not open at concerts lol.

Julie, you just explained homeschooling better to me. I mean, since I'm not a teacher, all I can see was Baylee was missing a lot of things. But then again it was so much better that he was able to spend time with his father while growing up and Brian didn't miss the milestones of Baylee's childhood. Thank you for that. :)

As for Leighanne, i do like her. I am going to admit that i even made a team for her in twitter. My first twitter friends made team accounts for each the boys and I thought I'd make a team account too to be 'in'. I got to talk to her through DMs and emails and she was always sweet even though she knew i never bought any wylee stuff. But I kinda lost interest on her, I gave away the account to a friend. I like her because Brian loves her and she makes Brian happy. I dont care how she does that but as long as Brian is happy, she is good in my book. Ssme case with the rest of the wives/gf.

Oh, sure! :)  This is probably one of the only times you'll see me justifying homeschooling LOL.  And even though I can understand why Brian and Leighanne do it, Mare definitely has a point about all homeschool kids having the weird factor!  I've never met one who wasn't weird.

I like all of the wives, but I think my new favorite is Rochelle!  I love her tweets and all the pictures she posts of Ava.  And I'm glad she and AJ have pretty much stopped with all the "Monkee" stuff LOL.

I love that I love this album too and am not having to fake any enjoyment over it.  While I won't say that I faked any enthusiasm over TIU, I do think I hid some disappointment over the fact that, for an album called This Is Us, it didn't really feel like the Backstreet Boys I loved.  I don't hate TIU, but I love IAWLT SO much better, and that is a nice feeling!  It's hard to be disappointed over something you've been building up in your head for this long!

Yes it has! Another confession though! I am afraid if they go back to working with New Kids my love will wane once again. But I'm hoping Kevin will never let that happen! You know, here in Italy there hadn't been much competition between boybands. I don't think NSYNC ever toured here (I need to check) and we didn't know who the NKOTB were. Sadly, we had the whole Blue obsession. And now the 1Direction fever. I don't know which one is worst. LOL

I've never been a fan of boy bands actually. I always say BSB is my one exception. I have no problem with One Direction. I think they're at least talented. I never really enjoyed Nsync's music and admit I didn't like them mainly because of Justin and his punk little attitude and Lance and his, but looking back, I thought minus maybe Chris and Lance, at least three of them could sing. 98 degrees is like my version of Unbreakable. I never think about them at all. All of their music to me is highly forgettable until someone brings them up and then I'm like "Oh yeah, those guys used to exist!" LOL

Then you have the dregs like that horrible band that sang that horrible Summer "News kids on the block had a bunch of hits, Chinese food makes me sick" song. I can't remember their name at the moment. I know one of them died of cancer, which was really sad but yeah, besides New Kids which are the complete scum on the bottom of the boy band barrel, those other guys would have been my second choice for worst case scenario as far as BSB teaming up with people I would rather eat my own foot then see on stage! LOL

The only boybands besides BSB that I liked were 98 Degrees and 2Ge+her (which was only a mock boyband anyway).  That said, the only 98 Degrees album I actually own is their Christmas album.  I may have songs by other boybands downloaded, but I can't say I was ever a fan of any of those groups.

I guess that's another confession. I would be ecstatic if they did a concert without dancing and just sat there on stools singing, telling stories and playing their guitars, maracas, tambourines etc.. LOL

Aww, I like the dancing!  I love that they're doing the original Everybody dance and that they brought the hat dance back!!  They had talked about bringing back the chair dance, too, and I was SO excited, but I'm not sure that's actually happening.  Guess I'll find out tomorrow!

I think it's the dancing that made it hard for the industry to take them seriously! I have a feeling if they never did any of that and just sang, they would have really gained the same amount of respect as Boys to Men.

I did like the chair dance though and I enjoy the Everybody dance as well. They're fun to watch.

Eep! Have fun tomorrow! I hope someone records the entire show and puts it online!

LOL That may be true... I guess they got that from the New Kids!  Let's blame Lou for making them do that.

Thanks!  I will definitely take some video!  I spent too much money a new camera that's supposed to have great zoom just for this and the cruise.  Hope it pays off!

I like other boybands, but BSB are my favourites by a mile!

Thanks!  I probably won't get around to posting anything until Sunday because I'm seeing them tomorrow in Chicago (3 hours north), then driving home late tomorrow night so I can sleep a few hours before getting up Saturday morning and driving to St. Louis (3 hours south).  I'm spending the night in St. Louis and will be back on Sunday!  My phone sucks, so you probably won't hear from me until then.  But I will definitely have pics, videos, and reviews for anyone who cares to see them.

I love when they dance and stuff but I prefer the acustic version. Especially with them playing the instruments. *__*

Nothing like a tour to bring the fandom together!  (For the most part.)

This isn't really a deep dark confession but I didn't know where else to post it. I am SO happy to see such a  variety on AC's most recent page. For the longest time it was all romance, drama! But yesterday 10 of the stories on the most recent page were things other than romance, drama! Sure, there was still romance and drama but blended with other things like action, suspense, sci-fi and comedy. This is the first time in years that I'm reading more than one story and the stories I'm reading are being frequently updated and not once every few months if we're lucky.

It almost feels like the old days, although I don't want to jinx us all! LOL

ME TOO!!!  I am having a tough time staying caught up with all the awesome stories being written right now!  This is a good problem to have.  I just wish you all could have gotten on a roll in June instead of August! LOL

Just knowing there's so much out there is nice. I mean there's a lot of stories I have started and know maybe I won't finish reading because they are turning into things I wouldn't like, but the fact that there ARE stories I am actually clicking on to read in the first place is pretty awesome!

Weird it doesn't work that way for me, I wish it did. I love reading first thing in the morning and It's been nice going to AC and almost always find a new chapter to read. Although not this morning lol Yet, anyway.

Title: Re: The AC confessional

I like the time difference better in the summer when I have no schedule.  When when it's the middle of the night here and everyone is asleep and I'm bored, I think, "Ooh, the Europeans will be up soon!" LOL

Reading does inspire me to write, but it also distracts me, and when I'm short on time, it becomes a dilemma - do I use that time to catch up on my reading and not write, or do I use that time to try to write?  It's hard to find the time for both.

I love the time differences but I am on a different sleep schedule than most people in the US. I am usually up at night and sleep during the day. Idk how the heck I will manage on the cruise being awake during the day.

They're right, Tracy - being accustomed to staying up all night and only sleeping a few hours will work to your benefit on the cruise!  There is very little sleep, day or night.

Aww... all this cruise talk makes so sad that I'm not going!  I really wish I was going now that I actually "know" some people that will be there!  My birthday is October 26th-- what a way to turn 29 (for the first time...lol) that would have been.  I started to sign up for the waiting list, but I'm sure it's super long.  Sigh.  Maybe some other time.

I join the confession. I'm so happy for everyone who is going but I'm sad. And, unless they'll do an European cruise, I doubt I will ever have the money to go.

Aww I know! I would hope that maybe one day they'll do a European cruise. I don't even think it would bother me as much if it wasn't a cruise but that's always been my dream vacation. I want to go on a cruise so badly! Whether BSB is there or not! I'm always jealous when people go on cruises! It's the only time I turn into a McJelly Jellorson! lol

Before I answer the question, I want to say I've missed this site SO MUCH over the last few months.  I've been writing like crazy, but not just BSB fanfic.

Now my confession:  I'm in a rut when it comes to fanfic.  I have tons of ideas, but lack the motivation to write them.  I have found my new perversions I'm writing about, but not sure it's something AC will enjoy.  For now, it's enough that I'm enjoying spreading my wings a little.  Who knows, maybe I'll get brave and share.

Also, I'm working on something not at all related to fanfic.  If I can get myself in the right frame of mind over the next few weeks, I'll be entering a writing contest.  I think I've got a good start.  And I'm hoping if my submission is accepted I can get all of you to give it a chance.  My first step to making a dream a reality, hopefully getting a book published.

As I said, I've missed this place like crazy.   Hope you're all doing well!!!

Love and hugs!

D

I'm also joining the "gutted I'm not going on the cruise" club.  I don't think I will ever be able to afford to do it.

Mare, I'd also love to go on a real cruise too.  I've been on a mini cruise to Norway and that was great.

Dottie, good luck with the writing :)

Hellooooo! Let's see, I think I have some confessions to make as well.

I also love the time difference!  When I post a new chapter,  I usually go to sleep and when I wake up, the read count has almost always gone up :) Sad part is the review count rarely has. ;)

And thank God I'm not the only one who doesn't think Nick isn't God's gift to women!  Though he is the main character in "Fireflies", he's not my favorite Backstreet Boy, never has been,  never will be.  In the past,  I disliked him,  because everyone loved him that much.  Now,  I like him, but still don't love him. ;)

I love the fact that I am writing again,  though it is costing me sleep AGAIN.
When I was writing before,  think back to "Prevailing Fate", I hardly slept. Not only because it was a collaboration and my co-writer lives in the United States,  so we had online "meetings", but also because I only seem to get my inspiration at night. Why?  Maybe because I have time to think then, or because my creative juices start to flow when there aren't any distractions at that time of night.

And last but not least, I think I am one of the few fans that have no desire whatsoever to actually meet the boys.
Yeah,  that's right, I don't want to meet them.
